Gwendolyn did not answer right away. Instead, she turned to look at the man by her side, Cedrick.
Then she saw the gloomy look in his eyes as he resentfully stared at her.
He was ready to submit, but right as he was about to have it, someone interrupted. It was torture.
Realizing that Gwendolyn rejected the person on the other end of the line, Frostine. “I'm not free today. I'll be resting at home. Let her stay if she wants to wait, but do serve her snacks and drinks. If she wants to stay and wait, then let her be.”
“Of course, Ms. Harris.”
“Mm. I have something to do today. I'll be busy. Don't disturb me unless it's something major like the imminent closing of the company.”
“Understood.”
After ending the call, she moved to pin Cedrick down again. “Hubby, are you satisfied with that?”
Cedrick could not help but curl his lips as joy bloomed in his chest.
Leaning toward Gwendolyn's ear, he hoarsely whispered, “Yes.”
Gwendolyn bent down to kiss his lips.
It was intimate and sweet as the two spent a rare afternoon together.
From their afternoon nap until evening, the two never left the bed. After the lovemaking, they continued teasing each other on the bed. It was as if the two of them were the only ones in the world during that time.
When the sun was almost gone, Gwendolyn's phone rang again.
This time, it was not a call from work; it was from Jennifer.
Ever since Jennifer lost her past four years of memories, Treyton brought her back to take good care of her. It had been a long time since Jennifer called her.
Once the call went through, Jennifer's gloomy voice traveled out of the speakers. “Gwendolyn, are you free? Can you meet me for a while?”
Gwendolyn could hear that something was off about Jennifer. “What's the matter, Jennifer? Are you in a bad mood?”
Jennifer did not answer her.
“Was Treyton mean to you? Tell me what happened, and I'll teach him a lesson for you.”
“I...” Jennifer hesitated for a long time before saying, “I sneaked out of the villa. I don't want to go back to Mr. Treyton's house nor the Newton residence.”
Losing four years of memory meant that Jennifer barely knew anything about society.
“So you ran away from home?” Gwendolyn sighed. “Where are you? I'll come and pick you up.”
At that, Jennifer started observing the buildings around her. Salinsburgh was not a familiar place to her, however.
Even after a while, Gwendolyn failed to find out where Jennifer had gone to. In the end, she had to teach Jennifer how to send her location to her on WhatsApp.
Before leaving the house, Gwendolyn hastily changed her clothes as she said, “Ceddy, I think Jennifer had a fight with Treyton. She sounds upset, so I'm going to find out what happened. I'll be back as quickly as I can.”
Cedrick was calm as he nodded in understanding and responded, “Sure. Stay safe, Darling.”
Once Gwendolyn was gone, Cedrick immediately called Treyton and grimly asked, “What happened between you and Jennifer? I can't believe you gave her the opportunity to run away from home. You're making my Gwenny rush over to keep her company.”
“Jennifer ran away from home?”
Treyton was dumbfounded. He was still at work, and he could not wrap his head around why that just happened.
Without ending the call with Cedrick, he took out his other phone to call the bodyguard at the villa. It was then he found out that Jennifer was indeed not in the villa, having snuck out at one point.
Panic surged in his veins, and he no longer had the heart to keep working.
“Why did this happen? I've been nice to her, and I haven't fought with her.”
The two men proceeded to converse for a while.
Gwendolyn drove to the remote area. It was dark, so she had to use a torch to find Jennifer, who was beside a rock.
