Whitney shook her head as she stood and handed the ball to the boy. “Run along and play.”
The latter quickly gave Whitney a polite bow. “Thank you, miss. I wish you lots of happiness every day. I’m off to play now!”
With that, the little boy ran off, and to Whitney’s surprise, she felt her mood lift considerably. My, my. What a well-mannered boy he was!
Now that she was feeling much better, the woman spread her arms wide, feeling the breeze brushing against her face as she basked in the sun.
The next second, Whitney’s stomach let out an audible growl, and only then did she realize she hadn’t. eaten a single morsel of food since the night before.
Without further ado, she pulled out her phone to look up the nearby restaurants, and it didn’t take long before a particular name caught her eye-Fouad.
Wait a minute… I’ve accompanied Charles to this restaurant before for client meetings. Who knew I’d be back again? What a coincidence. Since I’m already in the area, I shall grab a meal here before leaving.
After realizing the restaurant wasn’t too far away, Whitney rented a public bike and cycled to her destination.
Upon entering the restaurant, she noticed it wasn’t very crowded, and the owner spotted her immediately. “Hello, Ms. Mellor. Are you here alone today, or are you waiting for someone?” he asked smilingly.
Charles was a VIP customer of Fouad and often had female companions by his side, so it was no surprise that the restaurant owner recognized Whitney at a glance.
“I’m on my own today. Don’t worry. You can tend to the other guests,” Whitney answered before picking. up the menu and sitting by the window, feeling somewhat dazed.
As it turned out, Gwendolyn was also in the restaurant meeting with a client, and she spotted Whitney as soon as the woman walked in.
Without further ado, Gwendolyn excused herself and strode over to Whitney.
“Whitney.”
Upon hearing the voice, Whitney looked up in surprise. “Gwendolyn, what brings you here?”
Gwendolyn curled her lips into a smile. “Oh, I just happened to be here to meet a client. How are you? Have you managed to get in touch with him?”
Alas, Whitney’s expression didn’t look all that good, which made Gwendolyn slightly worried.
He. He’s currently in Muprary. The company there has run into some trouble, and nobody knows when he’ll be able to return. It’s been three days since I last heard from him.”
After seeing Whitney’s red, teary eyes, Gwendolyn pulled out a pack of tissues for her. “Don’t worry. Harris Group also has companies in Muprary, so I’ll get someone to inquire about Charles’ situtation. Hell be fine.” the reassured.
“But Gwendolyn Muprary is too chaotic.”
Gwendolyn quickly sat beside Whitney, wrapping her arm around the latter’s shoulders to offer her some comfort.
“Well, it’s a good thing he’s not contacting you. What if his people over there find something out? He’d be worried too, wouldn’t he? Aren’t there times when no news is the best news?”
Even so, Gwendolyn knew what it was like to be plagued with worry.
If Cedrick were in Muprary right now, she’d probably already have flown over to find him.
Once Whitney’s emotions had settled, Gwendolyn suddenly suggested, “If you really can’t stop worrying. go ahead and look for him.”
Whitney froze. “But… What if he doesn’t want to see me?
After all, she couldn’t be sure of Charles’ feelings for her, nor did she dare to bet on it.
“Whitney, sometimes in love, you have to take the initiative,” Gwendolyn advised as she poured Whitney a cup of warm water. “Besides, you’re his girlfriend, not a stranger. Let me know once you’ve made up your mind. I can arrange a private jet for you. In any case, take your time and think it over. I need to get back to my meeting now. Remember… Life is short, so seize and enjoy every moment of it. If there’s someone you want to see, don’t hesitate.”
After saying that, Gwendolyn walked away, leaving Whitney rather tempted by the suggestion.
Muprary’s a long distance away from Chanaca… Even by plane, the travel would take more than ten hours. Would Charles be surprised if I suddenly showed up? Would he be happy?
The more Whitney thought about her seeing Charles, the more nervous she became.
With the matter weighing heavy on her mind, Whitney absentmindedly ate her food and left the restaurant.
She called Jasmine, and the latter arrived pretty quickly
As soon as the car window rolled down, Jasmine smiled and patted the passenger seat. “Get in. Whitney. I’ll take you somewhere fun. Just so you know, nobody has sat in my passenger seat before, but I’m willing to let you be the first,” she piped up, doing her best to lighten the mood.
