Worship The Ground You Walk On novel Chapter 16

Hardly had Ben left than Kim rushed into the ward with food.

"Claudia, honey, I brought you chicken soup. Do you want some?" Kim shook the meal box in her hands and asked with a bright smile.

Claudia couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight of Claudia, nodding vigorously.

Kim set up a bed table and put the chicken soup and pretzel on it. When she was sitting aside peeling a boiled egg, Claudia said in sign language, "Thank you!"

Claudia knew very well that without Kim, Ben wouldn’t have entered the delivery room.

In that case, she would have been lying in the morgue now.

Kim patted Claudia on the shoulder and smiled. "You don't have to be so courteous. We’re besties, and that’s what I should do."

Claudia nodded to show gratitude.

“Hey, come on.” Kim said bashfully and added, “By the way, I just saw the baby in the incubator. He’s so cute and he takes after you.”

Surprised, Claudia beamed with pleasure.

"He’s so lucky to have both of his parents’ good genes! Ben is so handsome, and you’re so pretty, and that’s why your son is so good-looking!"

Kim made up her mind and muttered to herself, "I’ll get myself a handsome husband in the future too! For my kid’s sake!"

Claudia gave a bitter smile, urging Kim to eat with her.

Director Gerren’s office door was pushed open by Marshall. When he got in, he locked the door behind him.

Stunned, Gerren asked, "Hey, what brought you here, Mr. Cooper? You wanna share some dark secrets with me?"

“You think?!” Marshall said furiously when he tossed the copies of all of Claudia’s pregnancy check-up reports on the desk.

Gerren cast a look at them and looked away instantly. Apparently, she felt guilty, "What?"

“When Claudia was giving birth to her baby, you said it yourself that the baby was in a transverse position and it was a difficult labor, but why none of the reports indicate so?” Marshall questioned.

Gerren frowned, "Well, things change, and sometimes there's not enough time to write everything down..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Marshall chimed in, "Oh come on, we’re both doctors. Stop fooling me like I’m one of your patients!"

Now that Marshall got it all out in the open, Gerren could no longer cover up the truth.

She sighed and explained, "I had no choice. The Evans promised to give me one million dollars if I do this right. You know, my daughter is studying abroad, and I need the money..."

“One million dollars...” Marshall scowled at her and flared up. “So a life is only worth one million dollars?”

“I work hard and I don’t live an easy life. I would have been lucky to have one million.”

Marshall was furious. If she wasn’t a middle-aged woman, he would have punched her in the face!

Marshall remained silent for a long while before saying in a cold voice, "You’re a woman and you have a daughter. How would you feel if this happened to your daughter?"

“Well, my daughter has a good mother. I will definitely be there for her when she's in labor. Also, I won’t allow my daughter to marry some rich guy just for his money. That girl should have known herself better - does she deserve to be Mr. Crawford’s wife?”

“You...”

Marshall was so angry that he wished he could end her life.

It was hard for him to accept that a doctor should have said something like that!

However, before Marshall could do anything, the locked door was kicked open from outside!

The loud bang even startled the nurses at the nurse station.

Standing at the door with a sullen face, Ben stepped in with cold eyes under Gerren’s astonished gaze.

Each mighty step he took was like a heavy tread on her heart.

“Yes, my wife can’t speak, but she’s also the lady of the Evans family! I won’t allow anyone to humiliate her!”

Fury was simmering in Ben’s eyes, “And also, it’s true that her mother wasn’t there for her, but I will always have her back!”

Ben gave a sneer and said faintly, “What does your daughter have?”

Gerren’s mind went blank in embarrassment and dared not say anything anymore.

She could only nod and apologize.

Ben said before leaving, “You won't be a doctor from now on! I won’t allow it.”
