Looking at the smug smile on Amber's face, Marshall realized that this wasn't the first time she had had this idea.
However, undeniably, it was a tempting offer.
Marshall had loved Claudia for a dozen years.
At this thought, he stared at Amber. “Do you have a plan?”
“I do have...” Amber’s eyes wandered over Marshall. “Our existence will be the best way to make this happen!”
Her smile grew brighter as she said that, as well as more sinister.
Marshall understood. She wanted them to pursue Ben and Claudia respectively to sabotage their marriage.
The usual approach was to make up some misleading stories.
“What do you think? It's much better than being in an unrequited love, isn't it?” Amber put on the look of a winner. “I’ll also think of ways to help you and create more opportunities for you!”
She would create more opportunities for him...
Marshall gave a sneer in his mind. He stared at Amber in a more teasing and scornful way and replied, “I have to sleep on it.”
He didn’t have to refuse her, because he didn't know what Amber would do once, she was pushed too far.
“Don’t keep me waiting too long!” Amber warned Marshall. “There is a limit to my patience.”
Now it was much more difficult for Amber to win over Ben’s heart because the baby was already born. Therefore, she had to take actions as soon as possible in case something bad happened!
One month passed in the blink of an eye.
Claudia went home with her baby accompanied by her nanny.
The moment Claudia got home, the housekeeper told her, “Mrs. Crawford is coming to visit her grandson with a guest tonight. Mrs. Crawford, you might want to get prepared!”
Claudia nodded, put Conrad to bed and went to the kitchen to help.
It took a lot of effort to prepare for the family feast held in the Crawford family.
Claudia opened the door at 6 p.m., only to see Hanna instead of her mother-in-law.
She brought several gifts and toys for the baby. She greeted Claudia with a smile, “Hello, Mrs. Crawford!”
Claudia still remembered that during the banquet last time, Hanna pushed her away while she herself was hit by the Champagne tower and the giant cake. Since Hanna had saved her at that time, Claudia responded politely with a smile now.
“Where is Conny? I want to see him,” Hanna asked.
Claudia pointed at the second floor and made a sleeping gesture.
“Well, since Conrad is asleep, I’d better not interrupt him!” Hanna put the gifts down as she spoke. She took off her coat, went to the kitchen as she rolled up her sleeves and said, “Let me help you!”
The servant and the housekeeper went into a panic. “You’re our guest, Miss Lewis. How could you work in our kitchen?”
However, Hanna insisted, so the servants said no more.
The door was pushed open again in two minutes. The graceful Winifred changed her shoes and went into the house, only to see Hanna bustling about in the kitchen, so she flared up.
“Claudia, how can you let Hanna work in the kitchen? Didn’t you see that? Are you blind?”
Claudia dropped her head in embarrassment, and then came Hanna’s voice, explaining, “It's alright, Mrs. Crawford! I’m not an outsider...”
Not an outsider?
Claudia’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing that.
Winifred echoed, “Exactly! This is your home!”
Claudia didn’t notice Ben coming back because she was busy cooking in the kitchen. It was when she served the dishes that she saw the slender and tall figure sitting on the sofa.
“We can get him a governess.” Ben suggested in a low voice, and put some food into Hanna’s bowl.
Smiling, Winifred stared at the two people and said, “That’s exactly what I’m thinking. It’s a great idea to hire a governess for Conny and let her teach him how to speak!”
Ben said nothing but kept on eating.
Claudia gulped down the food, trying to escape from the embarrassing situation and go back to her son's room as soon as possible.
“Hanna! Would you be Conny’s governess?” Winifred spoke her mind.
Claudia froze at the moment.
Hanna looked up, puzzlement flashing across her pretty face. “Me? But I’m not a professional. I don’t think I can do this.”
“Of course you can! Hanna, you’re eloquent, and you can speak several languages. Nobody is more qualified than you to teach Conny!”
Ben remained silent, while Winifred kept pushing Hanna to take the job. Hanna declined a few times but failed at last, so she could only accept the job.
Claudia was the only one at the table feeling her heart being stabbed when hearing their conversation.
“By the way, I’ll hold a dinner party for Conny a few days later. On that day...”
Winifred drawled and glanced at Claudia around the corner in displeasure. She paused before going on, “You may come too, Claudia!”
Stunned, Claudia met Winifred’s gaze in fear and astonishment.
Claudia was still under the shadow of the last dinner party. What if something happened again when she attended the dinner party this time...
The next moment, Winifred’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
“After all, you’re Conny’s mother. You have to show up at your son’s party, don’t you?”
Now that Winifred said that, Claudia couldn’t refuse at all!
