Worship The Ground You Walk On novel Chapter 27

As soon as the news went viral, Claudia was invited to the Crawford's old mansion by her mother-in-law.

Although Claudia didn't know exactly why her mother-in-law wanted to see her, she had a slight suspicion that the reason was related to the party last night.

When Claudia arrived at Crawford's old mansion, Winifred was receiving guests upstairs, so the old housekeeper asked Claudia to wait for a while.

While Claudia was sitting on the sofa waiting for Winifred, the housekeeper accidentally knocked over a teacup and cut his hand. Kindly, Claudia hurried upstairs to find a medical kit.

If she had known in advance that she would hear the most unwanted conversation of her life, then Claudia would never have come upstairs to get the medical kit.

As she passed the door of the study, a conversation came from inside the room-

“Hanna, while Conrad is still young, you should spend more time with him. You and Ben are meant to be. I'll have Ben divorced that woman as soon as Conrad accepts you.”

Winifred's voice sounded excited, as if she was eagerly awaiting that day to come.

Hanna said, “Mrs. Crawford, that's not going to work. Claudia is Conrad's birth mum. I don't want to compete with her...”

“So what if I say she's the true mum supposed to be? Do you know how she got pregnant?”

“What?”

“That was because Ben was drunk. He thought she was you. Otherwise, how could Ben have married her? It's not like you don't know how Ben feels about you...”

Hanna's voice was slightly helpless, “I know that Ben loves me, and I love him too, but...”

“That's right. We'll get rid of Claudia as soon as Conrad gets closer to you. The Crawford family won't keep that mute! It's a disgrace!”

Outside the room, Claudia's hands on the stair rail were sweaty. She seemed to have overheard a conversation she shouldn't have.

It turned out that Ben had actually... mistaken her for Hanna when he had sex with her in the first place!

She slowly turned around and she was afraid of what she might hear again, so she'd rather play dumb and pretend that everything was okay. And she certainly didn't want to set things straight.

When Winifred came downstairs, it was almost an hour later. And Claudia didn't know what Winifred had said to Hanna in the study during that time. And she didn't want to think about it, so she distracted herself as much as she could and tried not to think about it.

When she saw her mother-in-law coming down the stairs, Claudia hurriedly got up and nodded politely to her.

After all, she couldn't speak, so she couldn't greet Winifred with words. And Winifred hated her using sign language. And she wouldn't allow Claudia to write down her words. Therefore, Claudia could only smile and nod at Winifred to show her manners.

Winifred sat down arrogantly, looking like a hostess. She looked at Claudia with a stern gaze and pushed a stack of newspapers and magazines on the coffee table in front of Claudia.

“Ben booked the entire Zeus Hotel last night to celebrate your birthday in a high-profile way!”

Although Winifred's tone didn't sound like accusing Claudia, her words sounded a bit sarcastic to Claudia.

Claudia lowered her eyes as soon as possible and felt bitter inside. He had obviously held that birthday party to build a good reputation, so how could he have thrown it to celebrate her birthday?

“You seem to be getting along with Ben a lot better these days,” added Winifred. It obviously sounded like she was mocking Claudia.

Claudia felt at a loss for words. How could their relationship have improved?

It was all just a show that he put on!

“It's good that you two have a good relationship, but you don’t want to influence his career, right? Claudia, you're a sensible woman. Don't ever let Ben do this for you again!”

Claudia was embarrassed and felt very aggrieved!

Winifred knew why Ben had made such a big deal about her birthday party last night, but she said these things to Claudia, sounding like she was intentionally being sarcastic.
