When Ben woke up, he found himself in the hospital.
It seemed like it always had a white ceiling and the smell of disinfectant in the hospital no matter in which country.
Once he opened his eyes, he could feel a strong headache due to the hangover and wound.
“Are you Ben Crawford? You have three stitches in your head wound and eight in your arm. Do you still feel hurt?”
An African nurse was adjusting the amount of morphine that dropped into the intravenous line per second and asking him.
He shook his head and couldn’t recall what had happened last night clearly.
In the dizziness, he remembered that they were sent to a country house and got attacked. He fought against the attacker and got injured.
“We found you and your wife were hurt after receiving the call from the police. Your wife was in the next sickroom, by the way,” she explained what had happened to him and walked away.
Ben was surprised. Did the man attack Claudia after he lost his consciousness?
The wound in his arm didn’t bother him much, but the one in the head caused continuous pain, which was quite hard to tolerate.
When he tried to pull off the needle in his hand and got off the bed, the door of his room was open.
Simon and Christine walked into the room and said, “I’m so sorry to hear that you and Mrs. Crawford were assaulted. It’s our fault for not giving the best care of you. Please forgive us, Mr. Crawford.”
After showing a gesture of sympathy, Christine stared at Ben with a profound meaningful look.
“It was very lucky of you to have such a savior on your side, Mr. Crawford.”
Ben was surprised and turned his sharp eyes to Christine, “Who is my savior?”
“It’s…”
Before she could tell him, the nurse came into the room and interrupted her, “Someone wants to see you, Christine.”
Christine was puzzled, but she was still trying to finish her words.
But the nurse said, “She is very urgent to see you. She said you will regret it for the rest of your life if you don’t meet her immediately.”
Christine frown. She wanted to know who had the guts to threaten her in this way.
So she apologized to Ben and walked out of the room, but the nurse just brought her into the next room.
Claudia had woken.
She was lying on the bed with a pale face. Her forehead was covered with bandages and her arm was immobilized due to the deep cut.
Christine was surprised, “Do you want to see me, Mrs. Crawford?”
The nurse stepped out of the room judiciously.
There were only two of them left in the room.
Claudia could only make the sign language in one hand now. It was inconvenient but still acceptable.
“Should I thank you for what you have done last night? Or should I tell the police?”
“Well…” Christine was embarrassed, “You got me!”
But Claudia was grim and stared at her seriously, “Yes, you are trying to help me. But don’t you think it was out of the line?”
That attacker almost got Ben killed.
Besides, if she hadn’t found a way to ask for help, Ben would have been in a coma right now because of the excessive hemorrhage.
They dodged a bullet, but just barely.
Christine admitted it and lowered her head, like a child who was caught by the teacher and waiting for her scolding.
