Manager Harper was distraught. “Miss Xander, is it too hot? Let me add some ice.”
He was anxious about the woman’s visit. She was a good actress as she kept up the innocent front while he panicked like a headless chicken.
Monique placed the coffee on the table and smiled awkwardly. “It’s alright. I’ll let it cool down. I came for a job. Can you suggest a position that would suit me?” She looked expectantly at the man with a smile on her face.
Manager Harper felt his legs tremble. They were back on topic after a slight detour. He saluted the woman’s commitment to the act.
Monique was the only one seated. The power dynamics were clear.
“What position interests you?” Manager Harper said with his trembling voice.
“I don’t know. I was hoping you could tell me,” said Monique with a sheepish smile on her face.
She did not have any office experience. Hence, she did not have much of an idea on what jobs would suit her. She turned to look at the person in charge.
Only then did she realize the man had been standing all this while. The interviewer should be seated while she stood, no?
She quickly got up from her seat as she was embarrassed by her own behavior.
It was a mistake on her part.
Monique cleared her throat and smiled bashfully. She said, “Harper, please sit.”
Manager Harper’s legs trembled. How could he sit when she was standing?
The woman was difficult to handle. She looked harmless but she was good at office politics. No wonder the chairman was sweet on her.
Manager Harper chuckled awkwardly and gestured. “You take a seat, go ahead…”
Monique was caught between sitting and standing. “You should sit too.”
Monique looked at the office chair and Manager Harper.
