Monique could recall the time Henry stayed by her side for two whole days and nights when she was hospitalized. She sincerely thought of getting closer to Henry, but he would always claim that Monique was just his mistress. He would do that without sugarcoating it.

Monique was just Henry's mistress.

Since no other women were lingering around Henry, she thought it would not hurt to be his mistress.

She was afraid that she would be cast aside and was desperately longing for love like a very dry soil longing for the rain. It was as if it would immediately absorb every single drop of rain that fell on it without hesitation.

She never imagined herself to be so hurt when she saw Henry being surrounded by other women. The pain she felt in her heart hurt more compared to the pain she felt in her physique.

Monique inhaled another deep breath of her cigarette.

Once again, her life fell into despair. The sense of helplessness permanently sank into her heart as she felt that she did not have control over the things that occurred in her life.

She could not leave when she wanted to. However, it was not up to her to decide if she wanted to stay behind as well.

She inhaled another puff of her cigarette and almost finished the entire cigarette. It was until the flame burned the cigarette butts and ended up burning her hand.

However, she did not feel any pain.

She extinguished the flame in the cigarette butt and asked the driver, "Can you sell me your whole packet of cigarettes?"

The driver saw Monique being so helpless. The woman sitting in the rear seat was almost as old as his daughter. As he passed the cigarette pack to Monique, he said, "Young lady, you can just smoke in the car and give back the remaining cigarettes to me."

Monique took out another stick of cigarette and ignited it. She then started smoking.
