Pearl glanced at her watch. "It's half past seven. Darius and I are going to be late. Are you sure you want to keep bothering us here?"

Richard looked sad when he heard this. "Okay, then." He stepped aside to let them pass.

Pearl nodded and thanked him. But when she got into the car, it wouldn't start.

Darius leaned forward and asked, "Mom, why aren't we going? We're going to be late."
