Luther laughed mockingly. "Your wife? Richard, have you forgotten? Everyone knows she's been missing for over four years. That's enough to declare her dead. And you took over Cerubleu. People are saying you killed your wife for her property. Have you dealt with those rumors?"

"Shut up!" Richard's voice was dark and threatening.

Pearl was shocked by this revelation. She looked at Richard, her feelings complicated.

When Richard turned to her, their eyes met. "Don't trust him, Pearl. I'm only managing Cerubleu temporarily. I didn't want your hard work to be wasted."

"You sound so sincere," Luther mocked, then turned to Pearl. "I've been by your side for years and cared for you and Dar. You know how I feel, right?"
