Darius seemed to see right through Joelle, and his words made her uneasy.

"No, I'm not avoiding you. It's just that you've been busy with work lately, so we haven't had much time to spend together."

Joelle's words were partly true and partly not, but Darius couldn't argue with them.

As expected, he stopped talking.

"Stop scaring Elle. She's already pretty nervous around you. If you keep this up, she won't remember you as the gentle, kind, and lively guy." Kendric, who was driving, made a reasonable comment.

Darius glanced at Joelle, which scared her and made her laugh awkwardly. "No, I've always thought of you as that kind of guy."

Though not entirely satisfied, Darius accepted it. He was no longer angry since Joelle was sitting quietly beside him and talking softly.

He started making small talk with her. "How have you been at school lately? It's been almost half a month since we last talked."

"I'm doing well. I study hard at school, and my exam results have always been at the top of my class." Joelle seemed proud as she added, "Plus, I was fifty points ahead of the second-place student."

Darius smiled, which was rare. "That's impressive."

Joelle had a question too. "But Dar, Ken, and I need to go to school. Why are you riding in the same car with us?"

She wondered if Darius wanted to revisit his high school days. But she quickly dismissed that idea since he wasn't the type to do something so boring.
