“It’s fine. You were just telling the truth, weren’t you?” Chuckling, Ariana stated, “I never said I was mad at you.” 

“Ari, how could you not be mad?” Selena was fuming. Even an outsider like her could tell that Fiona was up to no good. How could Ariana be blind to it? 

Ariana said to Fiona, “Too bad you have a simple mind. If an suspects that I’m cheating on him with Mr. Smith and calls off the engagement in a fit of rape, do you think you’ll still enjoy his backing, as a student who only got admitted because he pulled some strings for you?” 

The piteous expression on Fiona’s face turned into one of sock. 

Ariana stated, “Brian pulled strings and got your admitted to Glea College for my sake. If he calls off our engagement, he has no reason to care for you.” 

A scowl formed on Fiona’s face. Ariana went on, “Students in Glea College are from high society. The girls here have high standards when it comes to making friends. 

“You’re nothing but a distant relative of the Torrey family, not to mention you’re not even a Gleaston local. In fact, you’re from the countryside. Without my relationship with Brian Lodge, you must know how difficult your college life would have been.” 

Fiona’s scowl deepened with every word that came out of Ariana’s mouth. She noticed all her classmates eagerly watching the spectacle. 

Without Brian and Ariana, Fiona would probably have to endure mockery for her four years of college. Even her status as a relative of the Torreys would not be of much help. 

The thought made her shiver. “Ariana, I was wrong. W–What should I do?” 

Since Fiona had been frightened, Ariana replied, “It’s not a tough problem. Indeed, I went out with Mr. Smith today, but we met to discuss business. Even if I tell Brian the truth, he will not believe me. So, I will need your help to back me up later.” 

“Back you up?” 

“Tell Brian that I was on campus all day.”

Fiona stared at Ariana with a little hesitation. If she followed Ariana’s instructions, she feared that Brian would hate her for being a compulsive liar. 

“It’s your decision. Do you want to enjoy your time at Glea College, or do you want the Torreys and the Lodges to have a fallout and affect your life?” Ariana posed two choices for Fiona. 

If Fiona went for the first option, she might ruin Brian’s perception of herself, but at least she wouldn’t be ostracized on campus. 

However, if she went with the second option–one that would lead to a fallout between the Torreys and the Lodges 

there was no guarantee that Brian would love her back. Instead, she would lose Brian’s protection. 

As a college student, Fiona should be able to weigh the pros and cons. 

As expected, she bit her lip and replied, “Okay! I’ll do as you say.”
