Chapter 166
“Yeah,” Ariana replied, nodding “Why else would I be here?”
Brian had expected her to at least explain why she had gotten into Victor’s car the night before. But to his surprise, Ariana seemed completely indifferent, showing no intention of offering her fiance any explanation.
The thought made Brian feel inexplicably stifled. Then again, he reminded himself that if he had decided to distance himself from his feelings for Ariana, he shouldn’t let her actions affect his emotions anymore.
With a cold demeanor, he said, “You can leave now.”
Ariana didn’t bother questioning his abrupt mood shift. She simply turned and walked out.
Outside, Emily watched her leave and couldn’t help but sweat nervously.
Did Ms. Torrey really not notice that Mr. Lodge was upset? Anyone else would have sensed that something was off, right?
Ariana drove straight to the Lodge residence.
Ime
When Francine saw her arrive, she warmly opened the door and said, “Ms. Torrey, Mr. Lodge instructed me to take you to the basement”
“Alright,” Ariana replied calmly.
Francine led her to the basement. As soon as the door opened, Igor bolted forward, desperate to escape, only to be shoved back inside by Ariana.
Having been locked in the dark, airless basement for an entire day, Igor had no strength left to resist. The push sent him sprawling helplessly to the floor.
“Let me out! Get me out of here!” he screamed hysterically.
The unpleasant odor in the basement hit Ariana immediately. Coupled with Igor’s disheveled appearance, she could tell exactly how miserable his time in the basement had been.
For someone like Igor, a pampered rich boy who had never faced real hardship in life, a single day in the dark, airless basement must have felt like pure hell.
“You want to go out? It’s not impossible,” Ariana said, looking down at him with a cold smile. “If you can promise me you’ll never repeat this behavior, turn yourself in to the police after your birthday banquet, and swear to stop scheming for the family inheritance, then I’ll let you go.”
“I agree! I agree to everything! Just let me out!”
At that moment, Igor would have agreed to anything. His only thought was to escape this place.
“Words mean nothing. Sign this first,” Ariana said, tossing a contact onto the floor in front of him.
Igor didn’t even bother reading the contents. He scrambled up to pick it up and signed it hastily. Satisfied with his compliance, Ariana turned to Francine and said, “I’ll take him with me. Please clean up the place.”
“Of course, Ms. Torrey.”
As Ariana turned to leave, Igor stumbled out of the basement and ran frantically. Although it had only been a day, his appearance was a wreck. His face was unshaven. His body was covered in bruises from a beating, and he reeked of sweat and filth.
