Brian’s face was uncomfortably close to hers. In the past, Ariana would have blushed at such an intimate moment. But this time. She merely pushed him away, frowning as she said, “Mr. Lodge, this is a workplace. Please show some respect.”
“You’re asking me to show respect?”
Brian chuckled, amused by her audacity. He leaned closer to Ariana and said, “Who was it that used to come looking for me three times a day, bending over backward to please me? Back then, did you know what it meant to show respect? Hmm?”
As he inched closer, Ariana sidestepped him and replied calmly, “I was young and naive then, Mr. Lodge. Please don’t hold it against me.”
She glanced around and added, “And this is the ladies‘ restroom. Even if you want to discuss something, isn’t this an inappropriate place to do so?”
Hearing this, Brian fixed his gaze on Ariana for a moment. His eyes now carry a hint of scrutiny.
“Mr. Lodge?” Ariana prompted.
“Follow me to my office,” he ordered, regaining his usual composure.
Ariana followed behind him.
When they reached Brian’s office, he sat behind his desk and went straight to the point. “Igor kidnapped you yesterday. By all rights, I should send him to jail.”
In the past, Ariana had spoiled her brother endlessly. No matter what trouble Igor got into, she would clean up after him. Even though Igor had always treated her poorly, she had always gone out of her way to appease him.
Brian finished speaking and waited for Ariana’s reaction.
Ariana sat across from him with a calm expression and said “You’re right. In fact, I’d like nothing better than to see him in jail.”
Her words were sincere. She had wanted to send Gwen and Igor to jail for a long time.
Ever since her rebirth, she had done everything she could to cut ties with them. In her previous life, she had loved Igor dearly, believing her affection could change him. But all she got in return was betrayal. Igor had destroyed her father’s business, and Gwen had fled with the stolen money
Thinking of how foolish she had been, Ariana laughed. “I was going to report him to the police, but Ms. Lambert begged me not to. The Torrey family only has one heir. What choice do I have?”
“But I heard that Igor isn’t even part of the Torrey family. He’s not related to you by blood, is he?” Brian asked.
Ariana responded nonchalantly, “It’s true that we’re not blood–related. But he still carries the Torrey surname. It’s an embarrassing scandal, and if it gets out, how am I supposed to hold my head up?
“And Mr. Lodge, we are engaged, aren’t we? You wouldn’t want rumors spreading about your fiancée nearly being defiled, would you?”
