Chapter 177
By the next morning, news of the Torrey family’s scandal was everywhere. People learned about what Igor had done at his birthday banquet.
Elaine was the dream partner for many wealthy heirs. Being harassed by Igor this way made them steer clear of
him.
Gwen’s scheme to elevate her son by linking him with a true heiress had backfired spectacularly, exposing Igor’s lack of worth.
Close to midday, Gwen came home from the hospital, looking exhausted. She rushed to Ariana and cried out, Ariana, how can you be so heartless? Igor is your brother. How could you set him up like this?”
“Ms. Lambert, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Ariana was leaning back on the couch, acting innocent. “Last night’s mess was entirely Igor’s doing. I didn’t force him to do anything at knifepoint. If I hadn’t stepped in, he would have ruined our family’s good name. I haven’t even blamed you for anything, yet you come to accuse me?
“You!” Gwen nearly choked.
Ariana said, “Ms. Lambert, please calm down. If you faint again and have to return to the hospital, that wouldn’t be good.”
Gwen was at a loss for words, forced to swallow her anger. Igor hadn’t behaved so recklessly, she wouldn’t be suffering Ariana’s pushback now.
Ariana smiled and said, “I don’t like kicking someone when they’re down, Ms. Lambert, but you have to keep the promises you made.”
She pulled out a contract she had prepared, placing it in front of Gwen. “This is the debt you owe me. I received the sports car you sent over, and I’m very pleased. As for the money, I hope you’ll come up with it soon.”
Gwen’s face grew even more grim when she saw the contract.
Earlier, she agreed to return the pair of Aurora Pearls that Ariana’s mother left behind. Those were worth 80 million. She had no idea where to get that kind of money.
She also promised Ariana a dowry of ten million. That was a total of 90 million.
“Didn’t I say I’d give it to you when I have the money later?
“Ms. Lambert, it clearly states a deadline of three months in the contract. If you can’t raise the funds by then, I’ll have to take legal action. At that point, you may not be able to stay here any longer.”
“You…”
Gwen knew Ariana was taking the chance to kick them out. Yet, she could not do anything to her.
