That evening, Ariana slowly got out of bed, walking with a slight limp. 

A maid opened the door and was so startled to see Ariana on her feet that she almost dropped the bowl in her hand. “Ms. Torrey! Mr. Lodge said you need to stay in bed for a few days to recover. You shouldn’t be walking around on your own!” 

The maid hurried over to steady Ariana, but Ariana didn’t seem too concerned. “I’ve been lying down for a whole day. If I keep this up, I’ll end up crippled.” 

“But Mr. Lodge said…” 

“He isn’t even here right now, so who cares what he says?” 

Before Ariana could finish, Brian’s cold voice rang out from the doorway. “Oh? I’m standing right here. Do you still not care?” 

Ariana frowned. Wasn’t he supposed to be busy with that land deal in South Gleaston? Why was he back so soon? Brian stepped forward, about to walk into her room. 

Ariana reacted immediately, pointing her crutch at him. “Stop right there!” 

He stopped in his tracks. 

She said, “We agreed I’m here just to recover. You’re a grown man. Why are you barging into my room for no reason? Get out!” 

Brian let out a cold laugh and stepped inside, ignoring her protest. “Ariana, this is my house. I’ll come in whenever I want. I don’t need your permission.” 

With that, he seized the crutch from her hand. She didn’t have the strength to stop him, so the crutch fell easily into his grip. 

“You!” 

Before she could finish, Brian stepped closer and put an arm around her waist, lifting her off her feet. 

The sudden move took her by surprise. She glowered at him and snapped, “Brian, put me down!” 

“Are you sure?” 

He signaled for her to look at where she was. If he let go now, Ariana would definitely tumble down the stairs from the second floor. 

“I mean put me down safely, not toss me down the stairs!” 

She felt disgusted every time he touched her.
