Chapter 234
Chapter 234
Noticing William’s gaze, the group immediately fell silent,
William turned to leave, but Evelyn sprang up. “Mr. Kingsman, I have something I’d like to discuss with you in private.”
She intended to stand up for her friend in front of everyone. However, before she could finish, William said. indifferently, “By the way, Ms. Granger, you can forget about studying abroad. That spot has gone to someone else. But I think, with your family connections and finances, going abroad on your own shouldn’t be a problem.”
Evelyn’s face turned stark white.
Lila was equally stunned. “That’s impossible! Evelyn has the best grades in the entire class. How could she not get the study–abroad slot?”
“That’s ri
right. She has the top grades. They already said she’d be the one going, didn’t they?”
Her classmates looked at each other, confused. Everyone knew Evelyn had ties to Brian. Why would the slot go to someone else?
“Mr. Kingsman, what do you mean by that?” Evelyn asked, pretending to stay calm.
She had believed her acceptance was all but guaranteed. Yet here was William, announcing in front of everyone that it was given away.
More and more people crowded outside the classroom, all having heard that Maddie was taken away by the police. They came to watch the spectacle.
“I mean exactly what I said,” William replied. “If you have any objections, you can ask your advisor.”
William had no intention of explaining further, but Evelyn wouldn’t let it go. “Mr. Kingsman, I understand Maddie offended Ariana this time, but you can’t do whatever you want just because you’re close to her! This is an abuse of power!”
Her words implied that William was punishing Maddie and even revoking Evelyn’s opportunity to study abroad just to back up Ariana.
William paused, then turned back to look at her.
Everyone waited for William to respond.
He set the books in his hand aside and said, “I was going to spare you some dignity, but since you’re asking, I’ll explain the reason.”
Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat.
William said, “There are limited spots to study abroad. Good grades aren’t everything. The university also evaluates other aspects. Ms. Granger, you’ve had multiple unexcused absences recently. Give me a good explanation for that.”
