Chapter 238
Elise was the ideal refined lady. She was exactly the type Belinda favored.
This was good news for Ariana. She wouldn’t have to deal with Brian constantly watching her anymore.
Brian didn’t miss the look of delight on Ariana’s face. Seeing this, a surge of anger flared in his chest.
Was she really that eager for him to meet another woman?
Belinda continued, “Originally, I had high hopes for you two, but these few months of interaction prove you’re just not compatible. Brian needs someone who can manage household affairs for him. Ms. Torrey, you have your own aspirations, so there’s no point trying to force you to stay together.”
It was obvious that Belinda blamed Ariana for failing as a fiancée.
Ariana nodded, not bothering to argue.
Belinda wanted Brian to have a wife who was both stunning to show off in public and dependable at home.
Ariana remembered how she used to cook and clean for Brian, putting his needs above everything. She felt foolish just thinking about it.
Why did she have to lower herself like that? Why did she neglect her own studies just to please a man?
It felt like all those years of education had been for nothing.
In this new life, Ariana had refused to take on that role from the very beginning.
Belinda mistook Ariana’s silence for submission, completely oblivious to what Ariana was truly thinking. Her eyes even carried a hint of disdain.
Ariana knew Belinda was probably thinking she’d lost a fortune by missing the chance to marry Brian.
However, Ariana was thinking that if Brian and one billion dollars were placed side by side, she would take the money without hesitation. In her eyes, Brian meant nothing
“Alright, I’ve said what I needed to say. Ms. Torrey, don’t take it too personally. There are plenty of good men here in Gleaston. Even though your father has passed, I’m still willing to help you find a decent partner someday.”
“There’s no need, Madam Mackle. I don’t intend to marry anytime soon.”
Even if she did want to marry, she certainly wouldn’t rely on Belinda to help her find a husband.
Belinda had brought it up merely out of politeness, so she just nodded. Standing up, she said, “It’s getting late. I’ll be going.”
With that, two maids waiting outside stepped forward to support Belinda as she walked out.
Ariana finally felt herself relax when Belinda was gone.
