Brian’s grip on Ariana’s arm suddenly tightened. 

Ariana felt a sharp pain that forced a hiss through her teeth, cold sweat instantly beading on her forehead. “Brian, you’re hurting me!” 

Brian realized he’d lost control, noticing his hand was pressing on one of her injuries. He quickly let go. 

Ariana seized that chance to back away from him. 

“Whether it’s William or Victor, none of that concerns you. We’ve already called off our engagement, so you have no right to question me. That was our agreement, remember?” 

Seeing how determined she was to cut ties with him, Brian let out a cold laugh. “Looks like you really did latch on to those two men.” 

“Think whatever you want.” Ariana had no desire to waste more words on him. 

“Ariana, neither of them is someone your status can handle I’ll wait for the day you come begging me.” 

“Don’t worry. That day will never come, Mr. Lodge.” 

With that, Ariana picked up the crutch off the floor and hobbled toward the stairs. 

A maid wanted to help her, but Brian’s glare made her stop. 

So, she wanted to keep her distance? There was no way he would let that happen. 

Early the next morning, Ariana got up intending to leave the Lodge residence right away. But she found Martha reopening her suitcase and taking out all the belongings Ariana had packed the night before. 

“Martha, what’s going on?” 

Martha heard her voice and quickly stood up. “Mr. Lodge said it’s hard to find a place near Glea College on short notice. Arranging a comfortable setup will take time, so please stay a while longer until it’s ready.” 

Ariana’s brows furrowed. 

Hard to find a place? That was ridiculous. 

With Brian’s status in Gleaston, if he had wanted to buy a place, he wouldn’t have had to look hard. Any real estate developer would have been thrilled to offer him the best property, 

What had he been up to? 

“Where is he? I want to talk to him.” 

“Mr. Lodge went to the office early and said he wouldn’t be home until tonight.” 

Martha continued unpacking Ariana’s things. 

Ariana tried another tack. “Didn’t Madam Mackle say she wanted me out of here as soon as possible? Isn’t he afraid of angering her by not listening to her?” 

“Don’t worry, Ms. Torrey. Mr. Lodge spoke to Madam Macke this morning, and she agreed!” 

“She agreed?” 

Ariana froze, completely caught off guard. How could that be possible?
