Chapter 245
“1
I must have mistaken someone else for her,” Brian explained.
“You two have called off the engagement, so it’s none of your business what she does or whom she meets. Must 1 explain that to you?” Belinda said.
“Yes, Grandma,” Brian answered politely, but it was clear he hadn’t taken it to heart.
He excused himself, and Emily quickly followed behind.
Brian’s face darkened. “Call home. Have Martha check if Ariana’s really there.”
“Mr. Lodge, Ms. Torrey’s injuries are so bad. Can she even wander around like that? Maybe you truly mixed her up with someone else.”
“Call! I want to know exactly where she is.”
“Yes, Mr. Lodge.”
Emily dialed Martha, who answered promptly. “Ms. Weston? Why are you calling me?”
“Is Ms. Torrey at home right now?”
“Yes, she is. She told me she had too much lunch and felt ill, so she went to bed.”
Hearing this, Brian took the phone. “When did she say she was going to sleep?”
“Around noon, I think. She told us not to disturb her.”
“Go check if she’s actually in the room.”
“Well…”
Martha sounded hesitant but still went upstairs. She carefully opened the door to a darkened room with curtains drawn.
On the bed, there was a shape that appeared to be someone sleeping. She quickly shut the door again.
“She’s in bed, Mr. Lodge,” Martha whispered.
Brian frowned. A flicker of doubt crossed his mind. Did he really see someone else?
20 minutes later, Ariana returned to the Lodge residence. She quietly entered while Martha was busy in the kitchen, then headed straight to her bedroom on the second floor.
She had prepared earlier by placing a pillow and a small moving gadget under the covers, so that in dim light it looked like someone was breathing
Ariana sighed in relief. At least Martha hadn’t noticed anything.
soon?
