A cold smirk played at the corners of Brian’s lips. 

He had clearly seen a woman who looked just like Ariana appear on this floor. He refused to believe she could vanish into thin air. 

Just as he stepped closer to the table, Emily rushed over looking anxious. “Mr. Lodge, Madam Mackle is here!” 

Brian stopped in his tracks. 

William said casually, “Mr. Lodge, people say we don’t get along, but we’re both well–known in Gleaston. If you want to cause trouble for me, at least use a better excuse. Accusing me of secretly dating your ex–fiancée is such a tired cliché.” 

Brian’s frown deepened. Emily quickly added, “Mr. Lodge, Madam Mackle is waiting. Also, causing a scene with Mr. Kingsman here at the Evergreen Hotel might not be a good idea. Maybe we should…” 

Staring down William, Brian saw the mocking gleam in his eyes. Brian’s expression turned even colder. “Let’s go.” 

“Yes, sir.” 

Elise had hoped to say a polite goodbye to William, but Brian spun around and strode off. She had no choice but to hurry after him in her heels, struggling to keep pace. Her face reddened with irritation. 

Once they left, William tapped on the table and said, “They’re gone. You can come out now.” 

From under the table, Ariana emerged with some difficulty. With all her injuries, it had been a miserable hiding spot. 

William watched her, amused to see this clever woman in such a predicament. “I’ll have someone lead you out the back so you won’t be spotted,” he said. 

Ariana gave a tight smile. “Really? Thank you so much.” 

William could have easily chased Brian off with a quick excuse, but instead, he’d said a long, provocative line that seemed designed to push Brian’s buttons. He was obviously enjoying the show. 

Just then, the waiter came in. “Ms. Torrey, please follow me. Otherwise, if that gentleman returns, it’ll be trouble. 

Right. Who knew when Brian might come storming back? 

Ariana nodded. “Sorry to bother you.” 

“Please, don’t mention it.” 

The waiter guided her through a side corridor. It was a common feature of discreet business hotels like the Evergreen. They were designed with hidden paths for high–profile guests to exit quietly. 

They reached an exit. William’s car drove her around to the front.
