Ariana was speechless.
Simon opened the door and invited Ariana to get in.

“Ms. Torrey, don’t worry. People in this circle rarely meet those outside it. Everyone’s on a similar economic level. You don’t have to suspect my intentions.”
“I didn’t think you
had any intentions. I just wonder why Victor asked you to treat me.)
“That’s something you should ask him.”
“You two are close?”

“We’re friends.”
“He can make friends?” Ariana asked, imagining how frightening Victor must be to deal with.
“You don’t really know Victor. He seems hard to deal with, but once you get to know him, you realize he’s even worse than you thought.”
Ariana forced a small laugh at his joke. It wasn’t funny to her because she knew what he said was true.
Simon drove off. When they had gone some distance, Ariana realized they weren’t heading toward her apartment. This isn’t the way to my place.”
“Ms. Torrey, you catch on fast.”
Simon had taken three turns to avoid Ariana’s neighborhood, but she still noticed this wasn’t the route home.
“Where are we going?
“Victor just messaged me. He insisted I bring you to see him,” Simon said, giving her a knowing look. “Looks like he’s finally found someone he’s interested in.”
“That’s not funny, Dr. Finch.”
“Alright, I’ll stop teasing you,” Simon said. “Victor has something important to talk to you about. It’s not because he’s into you. I’ve never seen him take an interest in any woman.”
“You mean he’s into men?”
Simon paused for a moment, then pressed a finger to his lips. “Shh. I never said anything like that.”
Ariana sneered. In her past life, Victor had adored Evelyn, so she didn’t believe Simon’s joke for a second.
Moments later, Simon parked outside the Smith residence Ariana got out with him, surprised to see Victor would live in a place like this.
“This place must be at least 30 years old, right?”
