Chapter 270
Ariana felt uneasy under Victor’s gaze.
She knew he wasn’t a good person and had the whiff of a businessman’s greed deep in his bones.
She approached him initially only to secure some protection in the future. Who could have guessed he’d be so difficult to deal with?
She still couldn’t figure out how Victor could ever become so obsessed with Evelyn down the road,
“Fine. If it’s your goodwill, then I’ll accept. But I want you to put something in writing.”
“Go on.”
“If something ever happens with Smith Corporation, it has nothing to do with me.”
“Ms. Torrey, isn’t that a bit too heartless?”
“I don’t have any feelings for you,” Ariana said. “If you sign it, I’ll accept the transfer. If you don’t…”
Victor just watched her calmly, waiting to hear how she would finish her sentence.
Ariana took a deep breath. “If you don’t sign, I’ll go turn myself in. Worst case, we both go down.”
Victor actually laughed out loud. Simon was the first to chuckle. He looked at Ariana and said, “Ms. Torrey, maybe you don’t realize that if you turn yourself in, Victor won’t go down, you
but
will”
Ariana knew Victor had power overseas and was quite a force in Gleaston too. But if he really clashed with Brian, it was anyone’s guess who would come out on top,
She would rather take the initiative to confess than be dragged down in the future.
“Fine. I’ll sign,” Victor agreed.
Simon said, “Ms. Torrey, this is really a matter of trust. You have to understand–Victor never sticks to contracts. Even if he signs it, he might ignore the legal implications. If he decides not to save you, he won’t.”
Simon was speaking sincerely, but Victor threw him a cold look, so he stopped talking.
Ariana said, “That might be how it works overseas. But here in Gleaston, once you sign something, it’s legally binding. Mr. Smith just got here and probably doesn’t have many connections. I’m not worried!”
“You’re right. I promise to keep my word this time.‘
Victor spoke in a tone like he was humoring a child. He quickly told Hunter to call a lawyer to prepare another agreement.
While waiting, he finally let his gaze linger on Ariana’s Injured arm. It was wrapped in gauze, and her face was bruised in places, making her look quite battered.
