Chapter 284
It was the middle of the night, and Arlana was startled awake by a nightmare.
In her dream, she was once again tied up on that ship, surrounded by the salty sea breeze, and held down by kidnappers who repeatedly violated her.
When Ariana opened her eyes, her body was drenched in cold sweat. The lingering feeling was unbearable as if the nightmare had happened to her all over again.
After realizing it was just a dream, Ariana sighed and tiredly rubbed her temples.
Suddenly, the room’s light flicked on.
Ariana quickly sat up, alarmed. “Who’s there?”
Victor stood at the door.
Seeing who it was, Ariana let out a sigh of relief. “What are you doing standing outside someone’s room in the middle of the night? You scared me to death.”
“Were you always this timid? Then why were you screaming just now?” Victor snorted.
Screaming? What did I say?” Ariana was perplexed.
“I could hear it from the room next door. Someone kept shouting, ‘Help me.“” Victor explained.
Ariana’s heart sank. Had she not only dreamed of it but also talked in her sleep?
Feeling uneasy, she asked cautiously, “Besides that, did I… Did I say anything else?”
“Nothing much, just those words.” Victor shrugged.
Ariana quietly breathed a sigh of relief. Luckily, she hadn’t said anything else or it would have been hard to explain.
“Should I have heard something more?” Victor cocked a brow.
“No! It was just a nightmare. I dreamed I was being chased by some horrible thing, so I screamed for help. Sorry for disturbing your rest, Mr. Smith,” Ariana muttered.
Can you s
sleep?” Victor hummed..
“…No.” Ariana’s voice was barely a whisper.
Since her rebirth, Ariana frequently had nightmares. She feared she would find herself back on that nauseating ship the moment she opened her eyes. Over time, the nightmares had subsided, but staying at Victor’s place tonight had unsettled her, bringing the nightmares back.
Whenever she had a nightmare, it was nearly impossible for her to fall asleep again.
Victor said, “If you can’t sleep, get up. I have a way to help you.”
“Fine.” Ariana reluctantly got out of bed and followed Victor.
He led her to the study.
Ariana had a bad feeling. “You’re not planning to make me practice my handwriting in the middle of the night, right? Can I refuse?”

She had already spent eight hours practicing earlier. If she continued, her hands would break.
Victor said calmly, “Drinking is a good way to help you sleep better.”
He placed a glass of liquor in front of her.
Arlana wasn’t fond of alcohol. She had a few sips at the nightclub before, but nothing beyond that. She wanted to refuse when she saw Victor handing her the glass. But then she thought about how she would likely struggle to sleep for the rest of the night and decided to give it a try.
