Chapter 32

The following day, Torrey Co. announced that it would be temporarily halting operations. This made the shareholders panle–halting operations generally meant that something was seriously wrong with the company‘ cash flow! It was highly likely there would be a breach of several contracts if the problem wasn’t immediately dealt with.
Everyone sat in the conference room and waited for Gwen to arrive and make a decision. She’d been managing the company, after all.
Soon, John arrived. Gwen was behind him. When everyone saw her, they hurriedly asked, “What should we do now that operations have been halted, Mrs. Torrey? Everything will be over if we continue like this!”
Gwen wasn’t sure what to do when she saw how panicked everyone was. She’d come to the company to destroy the evidence of her embezzlement because she was afraid of Ariana checking the accounts. Who would’ve expected something like this to happen?
It was all Ariana’s fault! She’d pissed Brian off, resulting in problems with Torrey Co.’s cash flow! The company wouldn’t have ended up like this if not for Brian withdrawing his investment capital.
Gwen fumed at th
thought but kept a smile on her face. “Don’t worry, everyone. Ariana is the cause of this–she offended Mr. Lodge, making him withdraw his investment capital. I’ll take her to the Lodge residence to apologize to Mr. Lodge; I’m sure he’ll invest in us again once she does. Things will be back to normal then.”
“I knew Ms. Torrey was worthless! She’s turned the company into a mess after only spending a few days here- she doesn’t even know how to look at ledgers and the accounts! We need you to take over again to get things back on track, Mrs. Torrey!”
“You have to talk some sense into Ms. Torrey, ma’am. We can’t afford to offend someone as powerful as Mr. Lodge!”
“Exactly! The company will be ruined if we don’t have any cash for operations to continue!”
The shareholders‘ complaints kept coming. Gwen forced herself to continue smiling, but she felt even more uneasy. After leaving the conference room, she turned to John and said, “Ariana knows something is wrong with the accounts! Hurry up and make sure everything checks out–we can’t let her find out what’s up!”
“Relax. I already have someone on it.” John wrapped an arm around her waist when no one was watching. Then, they entered his office together.
Meanwhile, Ariana was at the Torrey residence. She sat before her laptop and watched the surveillance footage. She smirked when she saw John and Gwen with their arms around each other.
Gwen had served proof of her infidelity to Ariana on a silver tray. Ariana saved the footage before shutting down her laptop. “I can’t wait to see how you’re going to deal with the cash flow problems.”
At the same time, Brian was in his office at Lodge Co. He glanced at the document he held while Emily stood before him. She said, “There are already issues with Torrey Co.’s cash flow, Mr. Lodge. The 50–million–dollar project has been halted, as have their other projects. The Torrey family will be ruined if they continue like this.”
“She hasn’t caved yet?” Brian asked.
“…Ms. Torrey has yet to come to the company.”
