Chapter 320
Seeing Brian extend his hand, Ariana was shocked and disgusted.
Evelyn stood by and watched Arlana carefully. Brian never took the initiative to shake hands with other women. Everyone around turned to look at Ariana. They hadn’t expected Brian–known for avoiding all other women–to reach out first for a handshake.
In the end, Ariana still shook Brian’s hand.
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Lodge.”
Ariana said that politely, but on the inside, she was already cursing him.
She wasn’t sure if Brian did it on purpose, but she felt his grip tighten sharply around her hand.
Ariana’s injuries were bad enough. With Brian gripping her so firmly, the pain spread through her entire body. She couldn’t show weakness in front of everyone, so she forced a faint smile despite the pain in her hand. Brian watched her reaction closely, trying to catch a slip that might reveal she was actually Ariana.
As far as he knew, Ariana’s right hand was badly hurt, so any pressure should have caused her excruciating pain. Yet this woman gave no reaction at all. Had he been mistaken?
“Mr. Lodge, that’s enough, don’t you think?” William pulled Ariana’s hand free. “Susan is my date tonight. Your date is Evelyn. You don’t want people to think you’re interested in mine.”
His words made Evelyn feel awkward. She forced a small laugh, then looped her arm around Brian’s and said to William, “Mr. Kingsman, you do like to joke. Rather than stand at the door, why don’t we all go in?”
“Good idea,” William replied.
Ariana finally breathed a sigh of relief. Brian had nearly crushed her hand
She leaned close to William and muttered softly, “Mr. Kingsman, that was a workplace injury.”
William said calmly, “Don’t worry, I’ll cover it.”
Ariana didn’t really care about being reimbursed. She just wanted to keep her distance from Brian during this banquet. She had no idea what else he might do.
Judging from his expression, she was sure he already suspected something about her.
Her only option now was to make him doubt that suspicion. She had to make sure she gave off no hint of being Ariana.
A short while later, Evelyn took the initiative to bring up Ariana’s name. “Brian, don’t you think that Susan looks a lot like Ariana?”
Actually, everyone who wasn’t blind could see that the new executive director, Susan, closely resembled Ariana. They looked nearly identical. Their only difference was their vibe.
Susan’s features looked more polished. She had the kind of breathtaking beauty one noticed the instant one saw
