If Evelyn had cared about her reputation for fairness before this time she was completely on Julia’s side. 

The dean knew she was pressuring him. He felt torn and looked at Ariana. She was Brian’s former fiancée, and William also showed her plenty of support. He still had to be careful. 

If he punished her too harshly and the board held him accountable, he’d be in trouble. 

He looked again at Evelyn, remembering she was the woman Brian adored. He really didn’t want to offend her. 

He slammed his hand on the desk and said to Ariana, “Ariana! Everyone’s saying they saw you hurt Julia. How do you explain yourself?” 

The dean was giving Ariana a chance to present evidence. Even if it wasn’t fully convincing, he hoped she could give him something. 

Ariana wasn’t stupid. She walked over to Julia and reached for her wrist. 

Julia instinctively tried to dodge, but Ariana was too quick, Julia ended up with her wrist in Ariana’s grip.

Julia struggled, then pushed Ariana away. 

Ariana said, “That’s my proof.” 

“What? How is that evidence?” 

The dean took a deep breath. “Ariana, I’m giving you a chance to defend yourself. Don’t just brush this off.” 

“There’s surveillance in the library, isn’t there? It should show how I grabbed her wrist from below, with my thumb under it. But the bruise on Julia’s wrist, where a thumb pressed, is on the top. Isn’t that strange?” 

Julia’s face turned sour. Evelyn frowned too.

“If that’s the case, then the only explanation is that Julia hurt her own wrist and framed me for it.” 

“Lies!” Julia shouted back. “Our finals are coming. Why would I ruin my own wrist just to threaten you? You’re just making things up!” 

“Am I? Check the footage. Mr. Gail, someone set me up. I want the school to handle this fairly. I’m sure you’ll see justice done.” 

She paused, then went on, “Julia clearly said that because I’m no longer engaged to the Lodge family, you wouldn’t defend me. But I’m sure you’re not that shallow, right?” 

“You! Ariana!” Julia’s face flushed with anger.
