Chapter 339
Brian felt irritated at Emily’s question.
“If the problem has gone away, what’s the point of clearing her name?”
Brian carelessly tossed the document on the table. At the same time, Evelyn entered his office.
She put on a faint smile when she noticed his foul mood.
She began, “Are you not satisfied with Emily’s work again? What’s bothering you?”
She had hurried over to his office from campus after she got the word that he wished to meet.
Yet, she felt uneasy when she saw he was in a bad mood.
Soon, he went straight to the point. “What’s going on with all the rumors about Ariana on campus? Were you behind it?”
He sounded accusatory. In the past, he had never spoken to her in that tone.
“Brian, are you confronting me over Ariana?” Squiding disappointed, she added, “You’ve never talked to me in this way.”
A frown crept onto his forehead.
She continued, “We grew up together. Do you not trust me? I’m not the type to pull such an underhanded tactic. Even Brennan trusts me, so why won’t you?”
A pitiful look flashed across her eyes.
Brian knew that Evelyn was a proud and stubborn woman, but even he had to admit she had gone overboard that day.
He replied coldly, “My people are looking into the matter. Mr. Gail himself admitted that you had asked him to expel Ariana. That man will not lie to me.
“Eve, do you really need me to lay out all the evidence?”
Her face paled.
“Look, with all the online posts and the library security footage, I have all the evidence I need. I don’t believe that you have nothing to do with the rumors.”
His tone grew cold and distant. “I asked you to meet in person because I want to hear from you were you behind everything? If so, what was the reason?
“Tell me the truth, and I’ll help you not get expelled.”
Evelyn finally looked up with a mix of shock and disbelief. Am I gonna be expelled?”
“Your actions do not align with your role as the president of the student union. Now that the truth is out, your reputation will take a hit. Do you think Julia alone could take all the blame for you? Eve, you’re too naive.”
Evelyn tried to remain nonplussed, but her expression betrayed her feelings.
Brian knew that Evelyn must have been orchestrating the rumors about Ariana.
Yet, he gave her a chance to come clean.
