Chapter 34
Gwen’s expression darkened. Ariana sald, “It’s not that easy being the Torrey family’s matriarch, Ms. Lambert. If you don’t have any ideas on how to resolve this issue with the cash flow, you’re better off running away right now. Don’t say I didn’t remind you.”
Gwen was finding it harder and harder to put up a nice front. She’d worked herself to the bone for the Torrey family and had outlived Carson, yet Torrey Co. was now facing a crisis. How could she possibly pay off the Torrey family’s debts before she benefited from It? It was not going to happen!
“I know you’re sensible and kind, Arlana. You wouldn’t make me pay off the debts alone, would you? Think of it as me begging you–please apologize to Mr. Lodge. Torrey Co, will be fine once he relents and lets us off the hook!” she said.
Ariana smiled at Gwen’s pleading. She said, “It’s not Impossible for me to head over there.”
“I knew you were the best, Arianal You won’t leave the company to die!”
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I’ve yet to tell you what my conditions are.”
Gwen was dumbstruck by that. “Conditions? You have conditions?”
“Of course. You’re asking me to do something, and I’ll do it as long as you can fulfill my conditions.”
Gwen’s blood boiled when she saw Ariana leaning against the couch leisurely. However, this wasn’t the time to get mad. She said, “All you need to do is go to Mr. Lodge, apologize, and admit you were wrong. You’ve never been petty or calculative–why are you acting like this now?”
‘Dad only taught me to be a prim and proper woman. I must’ve learned it from you.” Ariana’s smile remained in place. She said slowly, “I can go convince Mr. Lodge to change his mind if you want me to, but I can’t guarantee he’ll let Torrey Co. off the hook.”
Gwen wanted to say something, but Ariana didn’t give her the chance. She continued, “And once I head over there, the company will have nothing to do with you anymore. Whether it ends up in debt or does well, it won’t be any of your business.”
“You
“I won’t go if you object.” Ariana went all out. “At most, we can just let Mr. Lodge destroy us. I won’t need to repay any debts—you’re the one who will have to think
Something. You’ve been the one managing the company, after
all. It’s only right for the shareholders to go to you if their money is gone.”
Seeing that Ariana was being serious, Gwen gnashed her teeth and said, “Fine. I agree!”
Ariana knew nothing, anyway. How could a pampered princess who couldn’t make heads or tails of a ledger know how to run a company? She would ultimately have to beg her for help!
“Since you’ve agreed to my conditions, please sign here.” Ariana pulled out a piece of paper from her bag. It clearly indicated that Gwen and Igor would willingly give up their positions at Torrey Co.
Gwen’s smile stiffened after reading the contract. “We’re a family, Ariana. We don’t need to put everything in black and white like this, do we?”
“Verbal agreements aren’t legally binding, Ms. Lambert. I think it’s better to make sure everything is clear–cut.” Ariana smiled faintly. “Don’t worry, okay? I’ll head over to the Lodge residence and ask Mr. Lodge to let us off the hook once you sign this. You can prepare a contract of your own if you don’t trust me. I’ll sign it.”
Gwen had no choice but to sign the contract, albeit reluctantly. She looked sullen as she di

Gwen couldn’t help finding Ariana’s smile scary.
