Chapter 354
“Who bought the iced tea?” Victor suddenly asked.
Simon answered, “I did. We obviously can’t drink alcohol when dining with a lady. What started talking nonsense?”
Victor felt speechless.
if we got drunk and
Simon continued, “I’m always looking out for women’s safety. Don’t worry, Ms. Torrey. You’re safe here. After dinner, you can even stay the night and sleep soundly! No one will disturb you.”
Ariana glanced at Victor. “I couldn’t possibly impose. I’d better not trouble you.‘
Π
“Don’t worry, there was never a room prepared for you anyway.” Hunter’s sudden remark killed the mood.
He didn’t realize what he had said wrong until he noticed Simon glaring at him.
Had he messed up?
Hunter glanced at Victor next to him. But that was exactly what Victor had instructed.
Ariana changed the subject. “By the way, why did you call me here, Mr. Smith? Was it just to give me this ointment?”
It would seem excessive if it was only for that.
“Victor, hurry up and tell Ms. Torrey why you brought her here.” Simon kept winking at Victor.
But Victor ignored him and asked in a calm tone, “What’s your connection to South Gleaston?”
Simon groaned. Why bring that up now?
“I have no connection to it. That property belongs to William’s company. What does it have to do with me?” Ariana answered as if she had rehearsed this lie a hundred times.
“Then why did I hear that you were the one who won the bid?” Victor was skeptical.
“I was just helping place the bid. I didn’t pay for it. You’ll see I’m telling the truth if you investigate.” Ariana calmly picked up some food.
She wasn’t stupid. No matter how Victor asked, she would never reveal her identity as Susan.
“Let’s eat! Why ruin the mood with all this business talk?s not work hours. Why discuss projects now? It’s a total buzzkill.” Simon quickly signaled Victor to drop the topic.
His plan was for Victor to use the excuse of teaching Ariana how to write with her left hand to get closer to her. Who knew this guy would suddenly bring up South Gleaston instead?
They had investigated and found it had nothing to do with Ariana. Victor was just asking unnecessary questions.
“Ariana, I like hearing the truth.” That one sentence plunged the room into silence again.
Ariana had to admit Victor had an intimidating presence. Most people would crack under that pressure and confess.
But she remained composed. “I am telling the truth. If you don’t believe me, investigate all you want.”
