Chapter 37
Chapter 37
Brian frowned at Ariana’s words. Once she was gone, Fiona hurried forward to berate Ariana. “Ariana doesn’t know what’s good for her, Mr. Lodge. I’ll apologize to you on her behalf…”
“Fuck off!” he suddenly roared, making her pale in fright.
She didn’t dare offend him and ran off in tears. Emily entered the office, looking grim as she said, “Ms. Torrey has left, Mr. Lodge.”
Brian’s expression was so hideous that she didn’t dare say anymore. After a long silence, he asked, “Did I treat her badly in the past?”
“…Do you want to hear the truth, sir?”
He shot her a look. She lowered her head, not daring to speak. He snarled, “She deserved it! She was the one who wanted to be my lapdog!”
“Y–Yes, sir. You’re right,” Emily said.
“She’d done it willingly. Why is she coming to me and putting on such an aggrieved act now?”
“Yes, sir. Ms. Torrey brought this upon herself.”
Brian’s mood improved when he heard Emily agreeing with him.
Just then, Isaac entered the office, looking excited. “You guys will never guess what I just saw–a hot chick with long legs and shades on!”
He stepped forward and slapped Brian’s shoulder. “I treat you like a friend, but you keep something like this from me. Why didn’t you ever tell me you had such a babe in your company?”
The more he said, the uglier Brian’s expression became. Emily cleared her throat awkwardly and said, “Mr. Schofield, that was… Ms. Torrey.”
“What? Ariana Torrey?” Isaac was dumbfounded and thought he’d heard her wrongly. Hadn’t Ariana always been demure and conservative? When had she ever dressed so sexily?
Brian’s bad mood was back. He scowled and asked, “What are you doing here?”
Isaac gave him a confused look. “Why do you think so? It’s Evelyn’s birthday today–don’t tell me you forgot. Didn’t you say you wanted to take her to Nyte Club to celebrate?”
Only then did Brian remember what day it was. He rubbed his temples–it was all Ariana’s fault for pissing him off so much that he’d forgotten!
“Got it. I’ll ask Emily to pick Eve up now,” he said.
Isaac asked, “How about her birthday present? Is it ready?
Brian fell silent. Ariana had caused so much trouble for him over the past few days that he’d forgotten all about it. He looked at Emily and said, “Go to the jeweler’s and pick out something nice. Have it wrapped and delivered to
her.”
“Yes, sir.”
Isaac said, “She doesn’t want regular jewelry, you know. She wants a ring.”
