Chapter 38
Why do you ask? Are you interested in her?” Brian asked in return.
Isaac hurriedly denied it. “I wouldn’t dare! Ariana is head over heels for you–I’m unworthy of her. I heard something, though. It seems she’s been spending a lot of time with William Kingsman, your rival. They’ve been meeting each other in secret since the auction!”
Brian frowned at that. Then, he sneered. This explained why Ariana dared to act so arrogantly before him–she’d latched onto William. To think she’d had the nerve to tell him they were only acquaintances! Did she think he was an idiot?
“You know who Vance Hubbord is, right? He’s lusted after Ariana for ages. He’s quite the bootlicker–he heard today is Evelyn’s birthday and is joining the party. He even asked me to ask you whether you and Ariana are really going to call it quits. If you are, then he wants to shoot his shot with her,” Isaac said.
He coughed awkwardly before continuing, “I know I shouldn’t stick my nose into this, but you know what a bastard Vance is. Ariana might have imitated Evelyn before this, but at least her feelings for you were genuine. You
“He can go after her if he wants. He doesn’t need my permission,” Brian interrupted coldly. He looked like he didn’t care about Ariana at all.
That evening, a Maybach pulled up outside Nyte Club, attracting the attention of the passersby. Everyone in their circle knew that the car was a limited–edition model and the only one in the world. It belonged to Brian.
Evelyn was the only other person who had the right to ride in it, aside from Brian himself. She got out of the car, and Emily led her to the private room inside the club,
The upper crust’s scions and heiresses were present for the birthday celebration. They popped confetti when Evelyn entered the room.
“Mr. Lodge prepared all of this for you, Ms. Granger! Are you surprised?” someone asked.
She nodded demurely, and her gaze landed on Brian, who sat on the couch. “Thanks, Brian.”
“Have a seat,” he said.
She sat beside him, her face flushed. She felt a little anxious when she saw the gift he handed her. Her gaze dimmed slightly when she opened the box to find a pale pink pearl bracelet inside. It wasn’t a ring.
Still, she said, “I love it. Could you put it on for me?”
Everyone started cheering and whooping at her words. “But it on! Put it on!”
Brian had always gone along with whatever Evelyn wanted, so he put it on her wrist obligingly.
“Mr. Lodge, since you’ve already given Ms. Granger her gift don’t you think you should toast her, too?” someone cried.
“Feed each other! Feed each other!”
Some people started chanting that. Isaac hurriedly put a stop to it and smoothed things over. “That’s enough! Mr. Lodge has a fiancée, so stop teasing him!”
“Hasn’t Mr. Lodge already called things off, Mr. Schofield?
