“You’re not going to stoop to their level, but they are still spreading lies about you behind your back. When people start believing those lies, it won’t hurt them. I’m just upset on your behalf,” Selena said angrily. 

Seeing Selena fuming, Ariana couldn’t help but smile. “You know they’re just making stuff up. But I discovered something interesting.” 

“What did you find?” Selena asked. 

“Evelyn cheated.” 

“What? Evelyn cheated?” Selena’s eyes suddenly lit up. 

Evelyn was the president of the student union at Glea College. She always had excellent grades, although they had dipped a bit recently. With her well–known public image, who would believe that she cheated? 

“Ari, where did you hear that? Is it true?” Selena asked. 

“I’m not 100% sure, but she looked very odd today. When the dean mentioned that he would catch cheating students, she seemed really nervous,” Ariana explained. 

“Exactly. If she hadn’t cheated, why would she be nervous? Selena said, grabbing Ariana’s arm. “Let’s go report her to the dean right away!” 

The last time Evelyn tried to frame Ariana in the dean’s office–even though she failed–Selena had seen her true colors. 

On campus, Evelyn always pretended to be kind and generous. Who would have thought she’d resort to such underhanded tricks? 

“Don’t go!” Ariana pulled Selena back. 

Selena, clearly upset, said, “After everything she’s done to you, you’re not just going to let her off that easily, are you?” 

“Who said I’d let her off? But we can’t just go to the dean with nothing more than the fact that she looked nervous today. Besides, Evelyn has Brian protecting her. Without solid proof, if she turns it around on us and claims we framed her, what will we do?” Ariana replied calmly. 

“So, we know something is wrong, but without evidence, it’s as if we know nothing at all. Without proof, we can’t convict her!” Selena said, deflating like a popped balloon. 

Ariana smiled and said, “We may not have evidence yet, but we can find some. The surveillance cameras caught a few other students cheating, yet they didn’t catch Evelyn. That suggests she probably didn’t use a cheat sheet.” 

“She didn’t use a cheat sheet, so how did you find her cheating?” 

“Did you forget? This second set of exam papers was modified. Even Evelyn wouldn’t have had the correct answers. The students who got caught all had answer sheets for the unmodified version, which made it easy for the principal to catch them. But Evelyn clearly didn’t have the old test answers with her.” 

“Then how did she cheat?” Selena asked.
