Chapter 54
News of Lodge Co. hosting a press conference had spread he wildfire by
At the Lodge residence, Belinda slammed the morning news onto the table with a loud smack. Then, she furiously got to her feet. “Outrageous!”
“Mrs. Lodge Senior,”
The helper picked up the newspaper. When she read about the press conference meant to clarify Brian and Ariana’s relationship, her expression darkened.
“Why hadn’t anyone consulted me about such a major decision? What on earth happened? Emily, speak!” Belinda’s voice was icy.
Emily was reluctantly summoned to face Belinda. She stammered, “At Ms. Granger’s birthday party last night… Someone joked at Ms. Torrey’s expense… She proposed ending the engagement… and Mr. Lodge agreed.”
“Evelyn again?” Benlinda’s dislike for Evelyn was well–known, and as she learned that the calling off of the engagement stemmed from Evelyn, her face grew darker,
“Well well. She won’t give up, will she? Send me there right now! I’d like to see who dares hold the press conference without my approval!!
Emily hesitated and feigned a dilemma. “The press conference has started, Mrs. Lodge Senior.”
“How dare they! How could I have such a foolish grandson, who’d let Ariana down for a cunning vixen like her!” Belinda roared.
She rose to her feet. “If you won’t drive, I’ll go there myself”
Since Belinda insisted, Emily quickly relented. “Calm down, Mrs. Lodge Senior. I’ll fetch the car right away.” She hurried to the garage.
Meanwhile, at the venue of the press conference, Brian glanced at his watch. It was nearly 10:00 am, and the reporters had gathered. Why wasn’t Emily here yet?
“Brian, are you sure about breaking off the engagement with Ms. Torrey?” Evelyn asked with uncertainty as she sat across from him.
“Mrs. Lodge Senior is very fond of Ms. Torrey, and she probably won’t approve, will she?”
Brian coldly replied, “Ariana proposed the cancellation, so Mrs. Lodge Senior should understand. You don’t have to come with me today. I’ll have Emily send you home later
“No, I started this, and I’d never have expected Ms. Torrey to break off her engagement because of that. It’s all my fault…” Evelyn lowered her head looking pitiful and remorseful.
“This has nothing to do with you. It’s Ariana who doesn’t know her place,” Brian uttered. He’d made it clear to Arlana that he could offer her the title of his wife, but she should never expect anything more.
Ariana wanted too much, not just him but also his heart. Such perfection didn’t exist in this world.
Evelyn noticed the disdain in Brian’s eyes for Arlana and hesitantly probed further. “Brian… do you think Ms. Torrey and Mr. Kingsman could be serious?”
“William Is just toying with her. Do you think he’s taken a liking to Ariana?” Brian scoffed.
