When Ariana returned to the Torrey residence that afternoon, Gwen was beaming with delight over the press 

conference. 

When she saw Ariana, she eagerly approached. “Well well, Ms. Torrey. You’re finally back! Such wonderful news, and you didn’t tell me ahead of time. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have to be this worried all the time, don’t you think? 

Ariana raised an eyebrow at the joy on Gwen’s face. “Ms. Lambert, weren’t you planning to sell me off to the Hubbords?” 

“Not that! Not anymore!” Gwen waved her hands dismissively. “The Hubbord family is a small and insignificant household; they can never compare to the Lodge family.” 

As Ariana settled on the couch, she leaned in closer. “Ariana, now that both Mr. Lodge and Mr. Kingsman have taken a fancy to you, who would you choose?” 

Faced with such a blatant inquiry, Ariana leaned back against the couch and asked, “Who do you think I should choose, Ms. Lambert?” 

Gwen began chattering away, “Though the Kingsmans are indeed wealthy, the Lodges are the most powerful in Gleaston, so you should choose Mr. Lodge. 

“Plus, Lodge Co. has been putting pressure on Torrey Co. lately, so if you choose Mr. Lodge, wouldn’t that pressure disappear?” 

Gwen paused before continuing in a sycophantic tone, “But since Mr. Kingsman is showing feelings for you, it wouldn’t hurt to leave yourself a backup plan ” 

“Are you suggesting that I string Mr. Kingsman along?” 

“How is that stringing along? We’re simply evaluating our options. Since Mr. Kingsman likes you, get him to spend money on you and maybe bring business to us. What’s wrong with that?” 

Ariana scoffed. Gwen’s schemes were so blatantly evident. 

“Though I didn’t break off my engagement with Brian, it doesn’t mean Lodge Co. has relented,” Ariana casually reminded her. 

Gwen’s smile froze on her face. “What do you mean by that?” 

“I’m saying that though we didn’t break off the engagement, Brian has never intended to let us go. The funds he withdrew from us are not coming back.” 

Ariana’s indifferent tone made Gwen anxious. The latter exclaimed, “How could that be! You must do something to make Mr. Lodge give up on dealing with us!” 

Arian unhurriedly picked up the fruit on the table and replied, “No need to panic, Ms. Lambert. Torrey Co. isn’t under your control anymore, so even if we go bankrupt, it has nothing to do with you, right?” 

“How could you say that! That’s heartless! Everything I’ve done is for the Torrey family, and this is the appreciation I get?” 

Ariana scoffed as she got up. “I don’t know much about what’s happening at Torrey Co. either, and I could consider letting you handle the company. 

“But if you can’t resolve the funding crisis, you’ll have to pay the debts yourself.”
