Reina’s POV 

“Should we go after them?” Ella asked me. We stood outside the car, looking out for enemies while waiting for the others. 

“Let’s give it thirty more minutes. If we don’t find them, we’ll go then.” I told her. 

We’ve been waiting for more than an hour. Before they left, Rowan told me if they didn’t come back within an hour, we should follow them. I was getting worried but at the same time. Thad total faith in both Rowan and my dad. 

“Have you heard about King Ryker before?” Ella suddenly asked, 

I shook my head. “It’s my first time seeing him or hearing about him,” 

“Me too. He leads a rogue pack like Rowan. I already asked him before you guys came if I could stay in his pack by the star of next year. I asked Alpha Reign as well if I could come straight to his pack after leaving King Ryker’s rogue pack and they both said yes! Although your dad had to vouch for me before they did.” 

Ella said with a small smile on her face. 

“You want to become a traveler?” I asked her because that was the only tangible explanation for what she’d just said. 

She nodded slowly. “The world is wide. Different species, different people. I want to see them all. I’ve been hidden my whol life and made to believe it was just our world. I want to live like a bird; free, untamed and I also want to enjoy both good an bad things of life,”

I didn’t get to complete my statement when we heard footsteps coming our way. Hurried footsteps. 

Ella and I stood straight and looked ahead. For a moment, I thought it was our people coming back but I was wrong. 

It was Mother and Luke. Alive and well. 

My eyes went wide as I took in their forms. They both had a knapsack slung on their shoulders and they appeared to be in a hurry. 

“For someone who’s supposed to be on the sick bed, you look well enough,” I spat angrily. 

It became clear to me at that point that I was deceived about Luke’s health and made to believe I had to kill someone for him to be better. 

I got better after you left,” he swallowed hard. 

Luke didn’t have as much courage as his parents or Mother. He was brought up like a Prince and I was the lucky fool who became his betrothed. 

“I see. Why are you both in a hurry? Are you perhaps running? Easked, pointing at their bags. 

Mother growled at me. “Don’t act sassy with your mother,” 

I snapped my gaze at her. “I know who my mother is and you’re not her in any way.”

I looked to my right and realized Ella was frozen on a spot. She was staring at Luke as though he was the only thing that existed in the world. Luke also has his gaze fixated on her. 

What the f*ck! 

I hadn’t processed my thoughts completely when Mother grabbed my neck, trying to squeeze the life out of me. I removed. my knife and sliced through her wrist. 

She hissed in pain and glared at me. She also removed her knife. 

“You think you’re now liberated, don’t you?” She snarled. “Remember Harriette, I made you, 

“My name is Reina and you didn’t make me. You destroyed my life. You took everything away from me and gave me a pathetic, useless life,”

I knew who I was now. 

We charged towards each other at the same time and I was able to slam her into the ground. She had a larger body frame than I did and I tried all my possible best to hold her down. 

For all the years she tormented me, I delivered blow after blow, my fists landing wherever my hands could reach. It all happened so fast that I had to pull myself back 

I needed something to hold her down till my dad got here. I needed him to identify her. Somehow, she was someone I was supposed to know. 

I walked past Ella and went into the car to search for a rope because I believed I saw something like that in the car. 

“Ella, I called her name. 

When I didn’t get a response, I turned to her with the intention of kicking her if that was the only thing that would bring her back to her senses. 

Instead, I heard a knife slicing through flesh. It was so quick that never would I have imagined it happening 

Ella was right in front of me, holding the handle of the silver knife that had been stabbed through her heart while Mother was in front of her. 

Ella took the stab meant for me. 

She collapsed into my arms and we both fell to the ground.

“Ella!” I grabbed her face. She was struggling to breathe. It was afcking silver knife. I knew she had less than twenty minutes before the damage killed her because Mother’s knives were usually laced with wolfsbane. 

“HELP! Somebody please help us,”
