Camila was a bit puzzled by how nervous he seemed. She shook her head and said, "I didn't see anything. What's up?"

A strong sense of foreboding washed over Connor, like a tidal wave he could barely control. He locked eyes with Camila, his voice shaking as he asked, "Do you remember when that happened?"

"June 6th, the day before the SATs. I remember it clearly," Camila said. "I was riding my bike to buy some orange-flavored gumballs. On my way back, I saw a motorcycle wrecked on the side of the road, completely smashed up. I vaguely saw someone thrown into the lake. I rushed over, pulled the person out, and then biked to the nearest convenience store to call 911."

"June 6th..." Connor echoed, disbelief evident in his eyes.

Seeing Connor's unusual reaction, a wave of unease hit Camila. "What's wrong? Are you okay?"

Connor turned around and pulled Camila into a tight hug, burying his face against her.

Camila could hardly breathe from his grip, so she gently rubbed his head.

After what felt like an eternity, Connor finally spoke, his voice trembling, "Cami... do you know who you saved that day?"

"No idea," Camila replied. "I had spent all my money on the candies, so I went home to get more to pay back the store owner. By the time I got back to the scene, the ambulance had already arrived, so I didn't stay."

Connor took a deep breath, slowly lifted his head to look at her, and choked out, "That person was me."

Camila's eyes widened in shock. "What... you're saying that person was you?"

Connor nodded emphatically.
