Haylie lounged on the sofa, sipping her coffee, her eyes drifting towards the man standing by the window. A faint, mocking smile played on her lips. "Why are you still bothering with me?"
Connor turned around, his dark eyes narrowing slightly, a storm brewing within them. "Talk."
Haylie felt a chill run down her spine under his intense gaze. After a moment of silence, a hint of hurt flickered across her face as she replied innocently, "Talk about what?"
Connor raised an eyebrow, his eyes scrutinizing her, radiating a dangerous aura. Haylie sat up straighter, his deep voice ringing in her ears. "Tell me how you deceived me about saving my life."
Her pupils dilated slightly. She whispered, "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Still not talking?" Connor moved closer, towering over her, a flash of disdain and contempt in his eyes.
Haylie met his gaze, a cold sensation creeping up her legs. She tried to mask the panic within, and after a few seconds, she chuckled derisively, "What? Pretending you don’t know me now? Refusing to admit that I saved your life?"
"Enough with the act," Connor scoffed, his stare piercing and cold, sending shivers down her spine. "Talk!"
Haylie trembled, swallowing hard, her voice shaky as she slowly began, "Yes."
