The next morning, when I had just woken up, Clara was busy in the kitchen. She had cooked eggs, steamed buns and a big bowl of millet congee.
“Come on over and eat.”
She untied her apron and smiled at me. It was particularly beautiful, like the sun on a spring day.
But I didn't dare to look at her at all. I was afraid that what happened back then was known by Clara, after all, what she hated most was the robber!
“Why do you keep your head down? Just treat this place as your own home, don't be formal!”
She smiled, peeled an egg and handed it to me. She added.
“I feel close to you, you are like a long-lost brother to me.”
I nodded in response, dreading her talking to me about what I'd been going through these past five years.
Luckily not long after, her phone rang, “Nancy, what's up? What? No way. It must be Carrie ......”
After a series of questions, she hung up the phone with a pale face and was about to cry.
I hurriedly asked.
“Sis, what's wrong?”
She took a deep breath, calmed herself and said.
“The company borrowed some people's money. They know our company has the project, so they were in the factory door to collect debts.”
I instantly understood that this must be done by Carrie. If the money was taken by the debt collectors, then what else can we take to produce?
The workers won’t work if they had not been paid.
“Is there something else?” I asked, frowning.
“Uncle Lau was there too, saying that you infringed on that formula, and now he wants to confront you and intends to sue you.”
At this point, she suddenly put down her chopsticks, grabbed my arm hard and asked.
“Matteo, did you steal that formula from someone?”
I shake my head confidently.
“No!”
She added.
“If not, then why are you afraid to sell? Who could refuse such a temptation of five million pounds? I don't believe it. You worked out this formula. You helped me, so I didn't dare ask, but that doesn't mean I am a fool.”
“Sis, I did not. Let's go to the office right now, I dare you to confront them face to face!”
These bastards, they thought I was easy to be bullied!
Master once advised me not to offend others, but I should not afraid of troubles!
I must live like a man!
But Clara pinched me hard and said.
“What are you talking about? Matteo, I know you were kind to help me, so I don’t blame you! Run now and hide yourself. Never go to the office, never!”
When she finished, she opened the fridge, took some fruit and snacks, put them all in a bag, and grabbed two eggs from the table.
“Go now, take these on the way. Don't let them catch you. If they really sue you, it will be a big deal!”
