Chapter 800 When Sage and Jace came downstairs, everyone downstairs was gone. Firstly, they were too busy dealing with Sage’s photos scandal online. Sage did not care about it anymore, but they could not ignore it.
Secondly, they left to give Sage and Jace some space. Sage only had her eyes on Jace ever since he returned. Their presence would only interrupt them.
Thirdly, the fact that Jace came back alive was a huge shock to them. They needed time to digest it.
Jace followed Sage into the kitchen. Sage asked, “Is there anything you want to eat?” Jace said, “Any home-cooked meal will do. As long as there’s no fish.” Jace had so much fish in the past six months that he was so sick of it. He was fine with anything Sage cooked. He really craved her cooking. He always wanted to eat her cooking, but he could not.
Sage made a few of her specialty dishes. While she cooked, Jace stayed beside her and helped her. Looking at his knife work, she could tell he had a lot of practice. Sawyer and Primrose had trained Jace a lot for the past six months. Their plan to train him was delayed for four years, but they could finally get it done.
Sage was as busy as ever in the kitchen. She was cooking on three stoves at once.
There was a pot of soup, a large pot of roast chicken, and a small pot of roast pork. The aroma of the food was so delicious and could easily make everyone’s mouth water. At last, she made some spare ribs too.
She only prepared a small serving for each dish, but there was more than enough for two people to eat.
The two sat down across from each other in the dining room. When Jace took the cutleries from Sage’s hands, his hand was trembling. A strong wave of emotions hit him hard. He felt the urge to cry in that instant.
Six months ago, it was his dream to sit down together with Sage and have a home-cooked meal like this. He did not think his dream would come true. “What’s wrong?” Sage felt Jace’s trembling and looked up to see tears welled in his eyes.
“I’m fine.” Jace touched the corner of his eyes gently and held back his tears. It was too embarrassing for him to cry. He must not embarrass himself in front of Sage! Jace looked at Sage with a bright smile. “I’m going to finish all the food today.” With a heavy heart, Sage looked at Jace eating seriously. She never thought this would happen
after watching his burial. She still had the chance to sit with him and eat together in this lifetime.
Was fate playing her a fool, or had fate not yet run its course?
She did not know, but she did not want to think about anything now. If this was all just a dream, she hoped time would stop in this instant. She would stay in her dream and never wake up from this moment.
While eating, Sage suddenly remembered something and asked Jace, “Have you seen Aunt Freya and the rest when you come back? Do they know you’re alive?” Jace swallowed the soup in his mouth and looked up at Sage. “I came back in a hurry. I went to Mostal and saw mom from a distance, but I didn’t dare to show myself. When I saw the photos online, I was afraid you were in danger, so I came to Salem City first.” He pressed his lips. “I’m afraid that showing up unannounced will scare them. Can you, uh, come home with me?”
Sage’s eyes met with Jace’s dark eyes. She noticed the nervousness and anticipation that flashed in his eyes. After a short moment, she said softly, “Sure. I’ll come with you. Let’s go back tomorrow.”
Jace thought she would refuse. He did not think she would agree.
“Yeah!” He nodded heavily and quickly dropped his head. His heart was fluttering in happiness. He could barely hold the cutleries in his hand. At last, a drop of tear fell down his cheek uncontrollably and dripped into the bowl. ‘What a loser, old Dried Fish,’ he thought to himself. Sage watched as the tear fell into his bowl like a raindrop. It hit her in her heart too.
