A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 149

Jeremy looked straight ahead as he flatly answered, "Why do you say that?"

Melody pressed her lips together for a long while. Then, she said,"From the very beginning, all I've wanted was to be in a relationship, not to have everything between us based on some so-called sense of responsibility."

She finally said the words out loud, and the burden that had been weighing on her heart for so long seemed to be lifted.

During the time she had been with Jeremy—apart from the initial days of happiness—she slowly came to her senses and realized that she didn't know how to define their relationship.

They were supposed to be a couple, but it didn't feel like it. Then, were they not a couple? But they'd shared intimate moments too.

It seemed that nothing had changed between them. They were still engaged, but each lived their own life.

Melody hadn't dated much, and Jeremy was the only person she had ever been with. So, she had been confused and conflicted on her own for a long time.

She lowered her head and looked at her fingers that were nervously twining together, squeezing them lightly from time to time.

Jeremy's brows furrowed slightly, and his fingers on the steering wheel tightened. His voice was cold as he asked, "So, you think that being in a relationship means there's no need for responsibility?"

Melody's voice faltered as she replied, "But a relationship can't be just about responsibility." If a relationship was all about responsibility and no feelings, then what was the point?

The rain left fine marks on the car window. Melody gazed at the blurry image of herself reflected in the glass and felt a bit sad.
