Immediately, things became awkward.
Then, Jeremy emotionlessly said, "Something came up. I have to leave now."
Melody watched his retreating figure, and the gnawing concern in her heart grew. She knew his biological mother didn't leave him any fond memories.
Ophelia glanced at her and saw the worry in her eyes. She said, "Go talk to him if that's what you want." After all, the incident had taken a heavy toll on Jeremy. It had all but become an emotional baggage that he couldn't move on from.
Melody softly responded, "Ophelia, please excuse me. It'll just be a minute."
…
When Melody found Jeremy again, he was alone on the balcony.
His gaze was lowered as he looked at the view below him. The strands of his hair also obscured his eyes from plain view, so it was hard to see his expression.
Melody hesitantly stepped forward and asked, "Jeremy, are you alright?"
Jeremy's fingers, which were resting on the railing, twitched a little when he heard her voice. However, he didn't raise his head to see her. Instead, he merely asked in a deep voice, "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here for you," Melody bluntly responded.
It was night time, and the sky was dark, carrying with it a sense of heaviness. In contrast, on the other side of the door, the banquet was lively, and the lights were resplendent.
Melody gently asked, "Are you thinking about her again?"
Only a handful of people knew who Jeremy's biological mother was. Aside from Owen and Ophelia, Melody was the only person who knew about her.
Eventually, Jeremy turned around and emotionlessly looked at her. But instead of answering her question, he asked, "Are you and Denvin getting closer?"
Melody was immediately stunned. Then, she responded, "He's done me a big favor."
