At the mention of Cheryl's name, Melody's heart tightened in pain.
Andrew pressed further, "Cheryl treated you like a real sister. How heartbroken would she be if she knew you were secretly using Denvin?"
Melody clenched her fists, her hands trembling at her sides.
Andrew knew Cheryl had meant the most to Melody. When she died, the last call she ever made was to Melody. No one ever found out what was said during that call.
Melody closed her eyes, and her body seemed to sway slightly.
Andrew noticed it, and a flicker of satisfaction crossed his face. He knew Melody all too well. She was soft-hearted, timid, and deeply sentimental. She had always been easy to manipulate.
Yet, to his surprise, Melody raised her eyes and firmly shook her head. "I didn't use him. Nor did I encourage him to do anything.
"Dad, you know Denvin the best. He isn't someone who can be manipulated by others." She met Andrew's gaze without flinching. She knew exactly what he was trying to do—he wanted her to pressure Denvin into backing off and cutting all ties between Green Moon Orphanage and Regallo Charity Foundation.
Melody couldn't comply with that.
Andrew's expression hardened, and his facade instantly fell. "Do you really think I believe you? Do you even realize what Denvin has done? Mel, this isn't a joke. This is serious!"
Andrew felt a headache coming on just thinking about how Denvin had secretly investigated Celestial Group and discovered all their dirty dealings.
