The next morning, the hospital called Melody and asked her to go in to complete her paperwork. It wasn't supposed to happen this quickly, but they were clearly eager to see her go, too.
After saying those words to her last night, Jeremy had returned to the hospital immediately after that.
When Melody ran into him again, he reverted to his usual aloof self. Even the way he looked at her was the same.
Only Harold came up to greet her the moment he saw her. "Mel, long time no see."
Melody gave a polite nod. "Dr. Franklin, thank you for calling the police for me last time."
Back then, when Ben Zimmerman and his wife had come to cause trouble, it was Harold who reported them to the police and had them detained.
"As long as you're not upset. We were all quite out of line during that time."
Melody didn't want to dwell on the past anymore. She pursed her lips, then shot him with her old, regular smile.
"The chief asked me to finish my resignation paperwork, so I'll get going first, Dr. Franklin."
Harold sighed. "It'll be strange without you here. Come and visit when you're free, Mel."
The words had just left his mouth when an icy voice retorted, "This is the neurosurgery department. Why would she come back and visit? To watch you do surgery?"
Harold turned to look at Jeremy, but Jeremy was already looking at the case files in his hands.
He couldn't help but mutter, "Yeah, yeah. No normal person would come to the neurosurgery department for no good reason."
Melody spent the morning going through all the processes required for resignation. She couldn't help but feel melancholic as she walked out of the office.
She had once thought that she'd spend her entire life at Jembina Hospital. And would she ever be able to work as a nurse again?
Once she was done with her paperwork, Melody went back to the neurosurgery department. She still had lingering feelings for the place.
Tiffany had been waiting for her. When she saw Melody, she waved her over. "Come. I've got something for you."
She took Melody to the break room. Then, she handed Melody a huge bag of snacks and a small stuffed toy.
