A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 40

Jeremy still hadn't reached home when Melody got back.

Melody finished her nightly routine, tidying up before settling into the living room for a short rest.

Her eyes then drifted to the hearing aid resting on the table. Just as she reached out to pick it up, the entrance light flicked on.

It was Jeremy.

Melody turned toward the doorway, only to notice something that made her heart lurch—Jeremy's once pristine dress shirt was stained with blood.

Melody rushed over with concern written all over her face.

She instinctively reached out, wanting to check if he was hurt, but Jeremy dodged her touch.

His voice was low and edged with exhaustion and irritation. "Don't touch me."

When Jeremy had left Benson's office earlier, he'd happened to witness a patient collapsing in the hospital lobby.

The blood on him belonged to the patient.

Jeremy, already a neat freak, had barely tolerated making it home in these clothes, and his mood was utterly foul.

However, Melody didn't know any of that. She only saw the blood and assumed he was injured.

Her face remained tense with worry.

Jeremy's gaze was cold as he stared at her before uttering just two words, "Move aside." Then, he brushed straight past her.

As he did so, his shoulder brushed hers and sent her stumbling back. Melody barely managed to regain her balance before nearly crashing into the wall.

She winced slightly at the dull ache that flared at her waist. There was already a bruise there from when she accidentally hit the edge of a table at the banquet.

Nevertheless, Melody sat back down on the sofa and waited. She couldn't shake the worry gnawing at her.

After a while, Jeremy changed into fresh clothes. Now, his brows were relaxed, and his whole demeanor seemed visibly lighter too.
