Jeremy pulled his arm back, his tone unwavering. "Does it make any difference whether I raise my hand or not?"
The entire room had already voted in favor, and his vote wouldn't change anything.
Harold clicked his tongue. "I just saw Ms. Wardolf looking at you. You could at least give her a little reassurance."
"Why is that?" Krystal cut in. "Wasn't this supposed to be a discussion? If some people think she should stay, then it's only natural that others might think she shouldn't."
Harold was momentarily stunned.
Krystal was already standing up. She cast a brief glance at Melody and said, "We all know how things are in neurosurgery. I don't think someone who could lose their hearing at any moment is suited to stay.
"But since the majority agrees, I have nothing else to say."
…
After the meeting, Tiffany grabbed Melody's arm and pulled her toward the cafeteria.
"See? Everyone thinks you're amazing. Well, except for Dr. Finnigan."
Ever since Krystal's last comment, Tiffany had held a grudge against her. She muttered under her breath, "I don't get what makes her think she's so special, acting all high and mighty every single day."
"Don't say that. It wouldn't be good if someone overhears," Melody reminded her.
Tiffany knew she had a point, so she dropped the subject. She then excitedly started filling Melody in on all the gossip from the past few days while she had been away.
Just then, a voice called out from behind them, "Ms. Wardolf, Tiffany."
Melody and Tiffany turned around to see Harold, Jeremy, and Caleb approaching them.
Caleb was the first to speak. "Are you guys here for lunch? Let's eat together."
Tiffany nearly choked and quickly shot back, "Nope. We're just here for a stroll."
"A stroll? In the cafeteria?"
"Yeah. We're here to walk around. What about it?"
The two of them went back and forth, bickering as usual.
However, Melody stayed silent as her gaze lingered on Jeremy.
She wanted to ask him why he hadn't raised his hand, but she had no right to.
