Melody followed the head nurse's lead and cleared Stanley's bed but couldn't cheer herself up. She gave herself some time to calm down in the restroom before heading to the doctor's office.
She wanted to talk to Jeremy. However, he was nowhere to be seen when she got there.
Susan told her that he was in the garden on the ground floor.
Melody told the head nurse about Stanley's death before she went downstairs with a heavy heart. She still hadn't eaten the mint candy that he gave her.
She thought she had gotten used to deaths and goodbyes. However, she still couldn't help but feel disheartened whenever someone actually died.
Melody felt worse when she was clearing Stanley's bed earlier. Sophia, who had always been tough, had red eyes as she wiped her tears and thanked Melody.
Melody's heart was aching, but she was shocked to the core the moment she raised her gaze.
Krystal was hugging Jeremy in the garden gazebo. At first, Melody thought she made a mistake or misunderstood something. Perhaps Krystal was falling, and he was just catching her.
However, that wasn't the case. Melody remained where she stood for a while, but he didn't do anything else—except for hugging Krystal.
A good while passed before she finally raised her head slowly. She pursed her lips and flashed Jeremy a smile. "I'm sorry for not holding myself back. It's just that I fell apart a little. I didn't think my dad would be in a car accident.
"My adoptive parents might not be as wealthy as the Wardolf family, but they loved me with all their hearts. I thought fate would be kind to them after my departure. The last thing I've expected is for things to turn out this way."
The longer Krystal spoke, the more dispirited she felt.
Melody headed straight to the break room after she returned from the garden. She could still see Jeremy and Krystal hugging in her mind, and she couldn't stop thinking about it.
The door to the break room swung open once more, and in came Jeremy, who stopped in front of her. There was a whiff of disinfectant coming off of him, making things feel particularly chilly at this very moment.
He stared at her for a while before he asked calmly, "What is it this time? What are you crying about?"
Melody raised her hand and wiped tears with her sleeves before muttering in an emotionless tone, "I'm not crying. I have to head out now."
She intended to leave, but Jeremy gripped her hand for some reason. She struggled a little before she said. "Let me go."
There was a hint of coldness on his stunning face. He asked in a deep voice, "Why are you this emotional?"
