A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 99

Having said that, Caleb noticed Melody and teased, "I thought you were out on a date with Ms. Wardolf."

Jeremy responded curtly, "I have more important things to do."

She froze momentarily, remaining silent. Though yesterday's incident had indeed held Jeremy back, she hadn't expected him to see them as nothing more than a bunch of troubles. She couldn't help but purse her lips, struggling to put her feelings into words.

It was natural to have fewer nurses on duty at night than during the day, but unexpectedly, multiple patients had emergencies that night, causing the nurses to constantly run through the hallways to handle the medical emergencies.

It was finally time for the shift change at dawn after a long night. Tiffany, utterly drained, leaned heavily on Melody's shoulder and said, "I don't even want to go home anymore. I feel like crashing here at the hospital. I can't even think about having to work another night shift tonight."

Melody felt just as bad. Her stomach ailment, which hadn't fully healed, had started to trouble her during the relentless night shift, which stretched into the early hours without a break. She kept her discomfort to herself due to the overwhelming workload, merely relying on antacids for relief.

It was only after the medicine's effect had subsided that her pain became increasingly pronounced, causing her to groan involuntarily.

Tiffany immediately noticed something was wrong. She glanced at Melody's pale face and sprang to her feet in shock, exclaiming, "Your complexion is alarmingly pale, Mel! Hold on! I'll get a doctor to check on you right away!"

Melody couldn't even find the strength to speak. She merely slumped forward and rested her head on the desk.

It was then that the door to the break room swung open again, and the sound of measured footsteps filled the silence. Melody, with a strained effort, raised her head and saw Jeremy standing before her. His brow was furrowed, and his eyes conveyed a restrained gravity.

Tiffany said worriedly, "Please take a look at Mel, Dr. Chesson. Her complexion is extremely pale!"

Shrugging, Melody took a deep breath. "It's just a stomachache. I'll be fine after a bit of rest."

Jeremy lowered his gaze and said flatly, "You had a stomachache last night as well."

She lifted her gaze to meet his, her hands gripping her clothes tightly as she fought to endure the pain.

He asked, "Why would you even come to the hospital if you knew that you're still unwell?"

Melody replied softly, "It wasn't hurting when I got here. I had even taken some medicine at home earlier this morning."

"You're adding unnecessary trouble for the department," Jeremy mentioned, his brow furrowed slightly.
