Jasper drove out of the hospital and headed straight to the airport, speeding past beautiful scenery while his heart floated like a feather in the Aegean Sea.
It had been a long time since he last saw Evie. The little girl had been helping teach children martial arts over at Middle Evroya and rarely came back home.
So when she agreed to come back this time, he was overjoyed.
With half an hour left until the plane landed, Evie sat by the window seat, gazing at the clouds outside. It was noon and sunlight pierced through thin clouds, shining with dazzling golden light that hurt her eyes.
She wasn't sitting in business class but economy class instead. Though conditions weren't as good as business class, she felt everything was fine because she had seen a familiar figure when boarding. She immediately grabbed an elderly man's arm and asked if he would be willing to switch seats with her.
The old man's family didn't hesitate to agree once they heard it was for business class since his health wasn't great either.
After landing later on, Evie planned on getting off quickly. Luckily she only brought one small suitcase so there wouldn't be any need for checked baggage.
She kept checking her watch every now. Waiting for ten more minutes, hearing sweet voices from flight attendants, passengers were reminded about disembarking procedures soon after landing safely.
Finally! She could get off now!
Evie hurriedly grabbed her luggage and walked outside when Eudora and Teun's family who just stepped out of business class saw a familiar figure wearing a red Lolita dress full of dreamy romance from behind in economy class.
Teun frowned, "Isn't that Evie?"
Eudora sneered, "Look at how poor she looks; it's no wonder why she can only sit in economy."
Walt held their baby while Mrs. Anto still held onto their milk bottle looking lovingly towards them, "What are you two looking at?"
Teun pouted towards where Evie disappeared, "We ran into bad luck."
"Eudora managed to give birth thanks to some of Evie's blood; try being more restrained when you're outside." Mrs. Anto looked down lovingly towards Walt holding the sleeping baby.
"Okay, let's go." Walt didn't say anything, he just held his child tightly in his arms.
"Eudora, this is our family's first trip after you were born. Don't always go and see those boring people," Mrs. Anto said with emphasis as she patted her daughter's hand.
Eudora grinned mischievously and said, "But Aunt Evie hasn't even met the child yet! We're family after all, it would be rude not to meet them."
Mrs. Anto hesitated for a moment and then said, "You're right, let's hurry up."
So the Anto family got off the plane and marched forward in a grand manner.
Evie walked quickly, her stomach turning sour at the thought of the Anto family. But the faster she walked, the closer the people behind her seemed to get, especially Teun who ran up to block her path.
"Evie, why are you running so fast? You almost made me unable to catch up with you."
Evie looked at Teun, who was dressed in a bohemian-style long dress, and wondered how she could run so fast and catch up with her while still looking so elegant and ladylike.
She had a wry smile on her face as she said, "Teun, long time no see."
She really doesn't want to see these people with the surname Anto. Every time she sees them, she feels like the air instantly becomes foul and at least three years of her life will be shortened.
"Evie." Mrs. Anto's voice rang out, gentle and kind, but to Evie's ears it sounded like the voice of a devil.
The smile on her face became even more rigid, and she slowly lifted her gaze to Mrs. Anto. Mrs. Anto looked down at her as if she were an ant or a bug, and even a single glance was filled with pity.
She walked up to Evie and warmly grasped her hand, "You child, don't you know how to come back home once you've left? Your sister has even had a baby and yet we haven't seen you come back."
The child... Evie's face turned pale as she instantly recalled something. Last year at the auction, she had seen Isaac attend with Eudora, and the jade pendant from the Evans family had caused a heated dispute between Clare and the Evans family.
At that time, Eudora was pregnant!
Her heart felt like it had been hit by a blunt hammer, hard and painful enough to almost cause spasms.
Walt walked over with the baby in his arms and poked the smooth and tender little face of the infant with his slightly rough fingers. "Cristopher Carr, wake up quickly and meet your Aunt Evie."
