Chapter 10 Retorted to Them 

Chloe held the handle of the back door so tightly that her fingers hurt. 

Lucy turned around and greeted her with a smile. 

“Chloe, long time no see. I just returned from abroad a few days ago and asked Michael to hang out with us, but he said that you didn’t have time. It just so happened that I had something to do nearby, so I asked him to give me a ride and come see you. You won’t mind it, right?” 

Lucy’s tone was friendly, but there was provocation in her eyes when she looked at Chloe. 

Chloe clenched her fists so tightly that her palms hurt. She squinted, feeling utterly disgusted by Lucy’s words. 

Anyway, she wouldn’t go to the family dinner. After all, Chloe. wasn’t interested in fighting over Michael with Lucy. 

She said coldly, “No. I’m indeed very busy.” 

“Your clothes are in there,” Michael chimed in. 

In their three–year marriage, Chloe barely socialized besides work. So, she often went out without makeup. 

She had tender skin, and all kinds of dresses suited her very

well. Even if she just tied up her hair casually, she looked charming. 

Every time Michael went to the Shawn Manor with Chloe, he asked his assistant to get her clothing prepared. 

Sitting in the car, Chloe held the bag without moving. 

“You’re not gonna get changed in the car?” Michael asked.

Michael always had a tight schedule. Most of the time, he would drive to pick Chloe up not long before the banquet started. As a result, she often ended up getting changed in the car. 

And Michael had no idea why she didn’t do so today. 

“I’ll do it in the bathroom in the Shawn Manor,” Chloe 

answered. 

Glancing at the cheap clothes on her, Michael demanded, “Change your clothes now!” 

Sensing the tense atmosphere, Lucy turned around and tried to talk Chloe into it, “Chloe, if you are embarrassed, I’ll get off.” 

Chloe glanced at her and said coldly, “I said I don’t want to change my clothes here.” 

Michael stepped on the brakes and snapped, “Chloe!” 

“Michael, I don’t have the kinky hobby of changing clothes in front of my husband and his mistress. If you’re into it, go find

someone else to play along.”

After saying this, Chloe got out of the car and walked toward the 

Shawn Manor. 

Meanwhile, Michael was pissed off. 

In the past, Chloe would never talk back to him like that. 

Chloe and Lucy grew up together, so to him, there was nothing. weird about asking her to change in the car. Michael just couldn’t understand why Chloe was making such a big fuss about it. 

Lucy glanced at Michael. 

“Chloe might be shy. After all, we haven’t seen each other for many years. Michael, don’t be angry. So, you have a family dinner today. If I had known it, I wouldn’t have troubled you.” 

With a darkened face, Michael remained silent. 

There were many people in the Shawn Manor. When Chloe entered, quite a few of them were already sitting in the living 

room. 

Her clothes were somewhat plain. She still hadn’t got the time to get changed. 

When the Shawns turned around and looked at her, contempt.

“She’s Michael’s wife, but she doesn’t dress herself up properly. Just look at the clothes she’s wearing! An ugly duckling like her will never be a swan. That’s true.” 

Chloe heard those harsh words. However, she didn’t feel as uncomfortable as she had imagined. 

Except for Admas, everyone in the Shawn family thought Chloe was inferior to them. She didn’t come from the upper class, so they all looked down upon her. 

If it weren’t for Admas, they would’ve spat out words that were more hurtful. 

Chloe held the clothes in her hands and said calmly, “I’ll go upstairs first.” 

After changing her clothes in the bathroom, she took out a lipstick and rouged her pale lips. 

Immediately after, she looked more refreshing. 

After Chloe went downstairs, the servant told her that Michael went to the study to see Admas. 

She didn’t see Lucy either, so she guessed that Michael just gave her a ride. 

Chloe couldn’t care less about it and sat on the sofa.

“This dress is beautiful, but you’re not fit for it.” 

Suddenly, she heard a chuckle.

Looking up, Chloe saw Michael’s aunt, Jennifer Shawn, walking toward her. 

Jennifer was 37 years old, but she was well–maintained. 

Still, the delicate makeup could not hide the mockery on her face. 

Chloe smiled, “Jennifer, clothes should fit people, not the other way around. Otherwise, it’s like making Gigi eat at the table while you squat and eat dog food.” 

Gigi was a golden retriever raised by the Shawn family. The Shawns all adored her. 

Choked up at her words, Jennifer looked at Chloe suspiciously, wondering what had gotten into her. 

Usually, Chloe was humble. She acted obediently, almost like when Gigi was begging for food. 

But today, she had the guts to talk back to her. 

Jennifer’s face darkened. She didn’t respond to Chloe but continued speaking sarcastically. 

“Chloe, you married Michael and got a

Airlines as the airline stewardess just because you’re his wife.

How come you’re still an airline stewardess after years of hard work? You’re one of the Shawns. You should be far better than 

that.” 

A few seconds later, she added, “Didn’t you say you were keeping an eye on Michael? But he seems to be very close to Lucy. Right, Lucy is back, isn’t she?” 

Undoubtedly, Jennifer intended to rub salt into Chloe’s wound. 

The entire Shawn family knew about the relationship between Lucy and Michael. Before Chloe and Michael got married, they saw Lucy as his future wife… 

Chloe sneered.
